The Meridian, a seven-seater 4X4 SUV from Jeep was recently unveiled in India. The Jeep Meridian is a sleek SUV that is based on the Jeep Commander SUV that is already on the market in Brazil. The Meridian competes against other full-size SUVs available in India, including India's most popular SUV, the Toyota Fortuner. In this article, we'll compare the Jeep Meridian vs Toyota Fortuner specifications and features to find which one wins.

The new Jeep Meridian will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder multijet diesel engine that produces 167.6 horsepower and 350 Nm of peak torque. There will be a 6-speed MT FWD, as well as 9-speed AT FWD and 9-speed AT AWD transmissions to pick from. However, because the brand has not published exact specifications, these values are only estimates. There are four different driving modes on the Meridian- Sand, Snow, Auto, and Mud.
In India, the Toyota Fortuner is available with two engine options. The first is a 2.7-litre NA petrol engine with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The second engine is a 2.8-litre turbodiesel with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The petrol version is only available in RWD, whilst the diesel version is available in both RWD and AWD configurations.

Jeep Meridian vs Toyota Fortuner Dimensions
The Jeep Meridian may appear to be a larger version of the Compass, but it has some design differences. The specifications of the future car have not been published, however, it is based on the Commander and may have similar dimensions.

In terms of dimensions, the Jeep Meridian is slightly wider and has a longer wheelbase than the Toyota Fortuner. Meanwhile the mighty Toyota, on the other hand, is slightly longer and much taller.

A powerful front fascia with a distinctive Jeep seven-slat grille and elegant LED headlamps distinguishes the Jeep Meridian. Wraparound taillights adorn the rear profile. Although the SUV's general form is a bit boxy, Jeep has managed to give the Meridian a robust appearance.

On the other hand, the Fortuner boasts appealing headlamps, a trapezoid front grille, and a sculpted front bumper, the front fascia is particularly appealing. Split-LED taillights are also included, and the flat tailgate adds to the Fortuner's tough appearance.

The new Jeep has a 10.1-inch touchscreen display with U-Connect 5, which offers a variety of connected car technology capabilities. A 10.2-inch digital instrument dashboard, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 9-speaker Alpine high-definition surround sound system, automatic air conditioning with 2nd and 3rd row vents, front row ventilated, and power adjustable seats are all standard.
The Toyota Fortuner isn't quite as well-equipped as the Meridian, and its feature set is quite limited. It has an 8-way power driver seat, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity options, 18-inch machined cut alloy wheels, Quad-LED headlamps with waterfall LED Line guide signature, ambient lighting, seat ventilation system, kick sensor for power back door, automatic air conditioning, and more.

Jeep Meridian vs Toyota Fortuner Safety Features
The Jeep Meridian will be packed with some safety features which include a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), electronic parking brakes, traction control, 6 airbags, seat belt reminder, rear parking sensors with rear camera, hill start assist, etc.
The Toyota Fortuner on the other hand features 7-airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control with brake assist, hill assist control, speed auto-lock with emergency unlock, 3-point ELR seat belts across rows, etc.
Jeep Meridian vs Toyota Fortuner Price
The Jeep Meridian starts at Rs 29.90 lakh for the Limited model and goes up to Rs 36.95 lakh for the top-of-the-line Limited(O) AWD trim. The Toyota Fortuner has a starting price of Rs. 31.39 lakh (ex-showroom) and a maximum price of Rs. 48.43 lakh (ex-showroom).
When compared to the Toyota Fortuner diesel's base model, Meridian is Rs 4.40 lakh less expensive.
