KIA Carens Electric test mule has been spied on in Korea. The upcoming e-MPV will be based on the ICE-Carens but with a more aerodynamic design.
- Gets a more aerodynamic design overall
- New alloy wheels to enhance the driving range
- Could possibly launch in India as well
KIA is currently testing an all-electric version of its popular MPV Carens. The first test mule of the upcoming KIA Carens EV has been spied on in South Korea. The camouflaged MPV has given a slight glimpse of the changes in its design. Read below for more details about it.

KIA Carens Electric - What Will It Be?
The Korean car manufacturer KIA is also eyeing to sail the electric vehicle boat in the coming future. Hence, the prototype of the Carens EV has been spied on. The test mule is covered completely but it looks near production-ready. Additionally, road testing is generally considered the final stage in the development of a new vehicle. Hence, we can say that the Carens EV will hit roads globally sooner than expected. But, what will it be? Well, for starters, it'll look similar to its ICE sibling i.e. the current models. However, there will be minute changes to its design; mostly to make it more aerodynamic.
As visible on the test car, one such change is the new set of ally wheels. It gets a more covered and aerodynamic design for alloy wheels. This is possibly to reduce air range underneath the chassis and also increase the driving range of it. Meanwhile, we also suspect that the interior design will also use the same basics but with a slightly different layout. However, part sharing will be done with the ICE model to make it more cost-effective. Currently, there are no details about what and how big of a battery pack it'll get. But, since Hyundai Creta EV is also under development; we can expect that both of the models might share some of that EV tech.
Verdict
KIA Carens has proved to be a game changer for the company in India. In a segment that is majorly ruled by Maruti Ertiga, Carens has successfully established itself. However, an EV sibling will make it open to a more wide audience that looks for green mobility solutions. But, anyways, we don't expect the Carens EV to launch in India before 2025 or maybe even 2026.
