The Volkswagen Taigun recently underwent crash testing by Latin NCAP, receiving a solid 5-star rating. Notably, the Taigun had already achieved a 5-star rating under Global NCAP, although there are variations in test procedures, with Latin NCAP being more strict. It's important to mention that the Latin NCAP-tested Taigun was equipped with six standard airbags, distinguishing it from the configuration used in the Global NCAP test.

Volkswagen Taigun Scores 5 Stars In Latin NCAP
The model sold in Latin America is manufactured in India and then exported. According to the results from Latin NCAP, the Taigun achieves these impressive safety ratings, including 92% for adult protection, 92% for child protection, 55% for pedestrian protection, and 83% for safety assist systems. Also, the Taigun is the highest scorer in the G-NCAP crash test ratings in India.

In adult protection, it scores 39.99 points. This includes 14.4 points out of 16 for the frontal offset deformable barrier test, 2.67 points out of 3 for the whiplash rear impact test, 8 points out of 8 for the side movable deformable barrier test, and 6.89 points out of 8 for the side pole impact test.
In terms of child occupant protection, the India-made Taigun scored 45 points, which translates to a high percentage of 91.84%.
Powertrain
Under the hood, VW Taigun comes with 2 petrol engine options. A 1.0 L turbo petrol and a 1.5 L petrol unit. The former is good for 115 Ps with a peak torque of 178 Nm, whereas the latter churns out 150 Ps with a peak torque of 250 Nm. Since VW has wiped out the diesel from its Indian lineup, no diesel burner is on offer.
Pricing And Rivals
The ex-showroom pricing of the Taigun starts at Rs. 11,61,900 and goes up to Rs. 19.60 lakhs. It directly locks horns with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and the Skoda Kushaq.
