- Slated for global debut later this year
- Indian launch in 2024
- To continue with the same powertrain options, with revised styling
Just when Volkswagen unveiled new editions of its compact SUV, Volkswagen Taigun- Sport, Matte, and the Trail editions. Spy shots of the next-gen VW Taigun have surfaced online. The next-gen Taigun is slated for a Global debut sometime later this year, whereas the Indian launch is reserved for 2024.
Let us quickly explore the picture and details of the next-gen Volkswagen SUV.
Volkswagen Taigun Facelift 2024
The heavily camouflaged test mule was spotted on roads with the front and rear under camo wraps. The facelifted Taigun is expected to continue with the same mechanicals. What will be different is the front profile. New headlamp styling with a tweaked grille and the lower bumper.
From the sides, it is pretty much the same as the current Taigun. Since it is a facelift, the body structure will continue. The same design language can be observed in these shots. The evident body creasing, ORVMs with indicators, and the claddings. The typical dimensions with roof rails on top. New alloy wheels are something that will be updated in the facelift version.
The camo starting from the rear quarter panel is the obvious concealing of the changes to its rear. Meanwhile, the antenna rests on the typical spot on the roof in the rear middle. The shots reveal that it would pretty much continue with mostly the same elements. However, the rear bumper and the tail lights will receive some fresh treatment.
Powertrain
This new Volkswagen Taigun will come with the same mechanicals. There are not going to be any changes in the engine department. Since this is a facelift and not a generation change it makes sense.
It comes with 2 engine options. A 1.0-liter 3-cylinder TSI mill producing 115 PS power with a torque of 178 Nm. This comes mated to a 6-speed Manual as well as an Automatic transmission. The other option is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder TSI EVO unit churning out 150PS power with a peak torque of 250 Nm. The gearbox choice is between a 6-speed Manual or a 7-speed DSG.
VERDICT- TheTaigun is Volkswagen's gladiator in the compact SUV space. Since a 5-star rating in the crash test, it is under the spotlight now. Plus, the German origin adds an extra spice to the already well-cooked recipe. With new Editions revealed just yesterday, it looks forward to cementing its position among a more diverse section of buyers.
