Volkswagen Tiguan 5-Seater To Make A Comeback But With BS6 Petrol Engine

At the 2020 Auto Expo Volkswagen introduced a CBU (Completely Built Unit) of the Tiguan Allspace petrol which is a 7-seater SUV. The price of this SUV is north of Rs 30 lakh and an only petrol engine makes it a hard-selling SUV when the segment is dominated by Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour!

Fast forward to mid-May, reports suggest that the 5-seater version of Tiguan will now make a comeback in near future and is expected to be priced between Rs 23-27 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. This 5-seater version will be visually different from the 7-seater SUV!

The major difference will be under the hood as the 5-seater Tiguan will pack in a 1.5L petrol engine instead of the bigger 2.0L TSI motor seen in Tiguan Allspace. This 1.5L unit is the same as Skoda Karoq and produces 150 PS of power with a peak torque of 250 Nm. The engine gets mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox!

With this engine, Volkswagen will provide features like paddle shifters, electronic parking brake, hill descent control and among others. Also, the older Tiguan only came with a diesel motor so to make up for the decreased fuel efficiency with the petrol motor, Volkswagen might introduce 48V hybrid system and a coasting function.

Coming to the design changes then this facelifted version takes some inspiration from Volkswagen Golf 8. The front of the SUV is totally redesigned and the grille blends in neatly with the headlight cluster. Led treatments will be given to the headlights, taillights and even fog lights.

Like the exteriors, the interiors too will be given the modern detailing like a larger touchscreen unit with connectivity features like Apple CarPlat and Android Auto. We can also expect a digital instrument cluster and a digital cockpit too.

This upcoming SUV will get an FWD (front-wheel drive) set up to keep the costs in check. The SUV will be assembled in the Chakan plant in Pune. As of now there is no direct competition but still we can compete it with the Skoda Karoq.
