- Undercuts the top-spec GT Plus DSG variant by Rs.2.38 lakhs
- The DSG gearbox now available in 2 trims
There are only a handful of cars in the mid-size segment sedans currently. But Volkswagen Virtus has managed to carve out its space quite pretty quickly. And with the single Virtus GT Line variant that was launched last month, it has grown to now a total of 3 variants with a new launch. A new base GT trim is launched at Rs, 16.19 lakhs which makes it the most affordable in the Virtus GT line-up.
Let's look at the details of this new offering and what it packs.
Volkswagen Virtus 1.5 TSI GT Line New Base Trim Launched At Rs. 16.19 Lakhs
Volkswagen has introduced the Virtus GT DSG, the most affordable variant of the Virtus 1.5 TSI lineup, with a price tag of Rs 16.20 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned below the GT Plus trim, this new entry offers a balance of performance and affordability, making the Virtus GT Line more accessible to a wider audience. However, it comes with some cuts and misses.

The Virtus GT variant maintains the exterior features seen on the GT Plus, such as the distinctive red brake calipers and "GT" monikers. However, discerning eyes will note the absence of blacked-out alloy wheels and the chrome window line, Distinguishing itself as the lower trim option.
What It Misses Out On?
While positioned as a lower variant, the Virtus GT DCT does not include certain features found in higher trims. Omissions in the GT variant include a single-pane sunroof, digital driver's display, leatherette upholstery, rain-sensing wipers, auto-headlights, LED DRL turn indicators, height-adjustable front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming IRVM. However, the equipment list of the Virtus GT DCT is not entirely lacking, as it still offers notable features such as cruise control, a 10-inch touchscreen, paddle shifters, and auto AC with rear vents.
Virtus GT Line Powertrain
The performance-oriented GT Line variants are powered by a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine. It puts out 150hp power and 250Nm of peak torque and offers active cylinder-deactivation technology. It comes with a choice of a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG). With this launch, the DSG variant is now more affordable.
Price
The updated price list of the GT Line after this addition looks something like this.
VW Virtus variants | Price (ex-showroom) |
GT DSG (new) | Rs 16.19 lakh |
GT Plus MT | Rs 16.89 lakh |
GT Plus DSG | Rs 18.56 lakh |
The new variant is almost Rs. 2.30 lakhs cheaper than the GT Plus DSG trim at Rs. 18.56 lakhs.
VERDICT- The recent launch of the GT DSG variant has significantly lowered the price of the 1.5 TSI variants, which is expected to give a substantial boost to sales. Previously, the 1.5 TSI models accounted for a mere 10 percent of overall sales. However, with the introduction of the more affordable GT variants, Volkswagen aims to attract a larger customer base interested in the higher-spec engine.
