What Does 2022 Maruti Baleno Miss Out On? Top 5 Points

2022 Maruti Baleno is quite popular with the first in segment features and being the most fuel economical petrol premium hatchback. However, there are still some points that make the 2022 Maruti Baleno fall short when compared with rivals Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20. Let's have a look!

No Diesel engine

2022 Maruti Baleno

Unlike the rivals like Altroz and i20 that can also be availed with a diesel engine, Baleno only gets a petrol engine. The 1.2L DualJet engine churns out 89 bhp of power on tap with a peak torque of 113 Nm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and gets an optional AMT unit.

No CVT/iMT, 7-speed DCT as offered in the rivals

The pre-lift version of the Maruti Baleno was offered with a CVT unit, however, with the newer model, it got replaced by an AGS. When compared with the iMT/7-speed DCT or the CVT of the Hyundai i20, the AGS feels lethargic and not smooth as these other gearboxes.

No performance petrol unit as Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz

Maruti Baleno is available with a 1.2L DualJet motor that makes 89 bhp of power with 113 Nm of peak torque. While this engine is the most fuel-efficient that returns 22.35 kmpl with the 5-speed manual and 22.94 kmpl with the AGS, it is not that powerful when compared with the 1.0L of the i20 and 1.2L of the Altroz i-Turbo.

The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder motor of the Hyundai i20 churns out 118 bhp with 172 Nm of peak torque while the 1.2L unit of Altroz i-Turbo produces 108 bhp with 140 Nm of maximum torque.

No 5 star rating like the Tata Altroz

Tata Altroz got popular for its design and the Global NCAP rating of 5 stars. Tata Altroz is the only premium hatchback to score full marks at the crash test rating. However, the same cannot be said for the same. The pre-lift version of the Baleno scored zero stars.

No electric sunroof like the Hyundai i20

Yes, Maruti Baleno gets first-in-segment features like a 360-view camera, head-up display (HUD) and Alexa connect, however, it misses out on an electric sunroof. This feature is available in the top-spec variant of the Hyundai i20.
