Best-in-Class Power

The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 sources its power from a 199cc single-cylinder engine with the patented Triple Spark DTS-i 4V tech. This setup allows the machine to generate 24.5 PS of power and 18.74 Nm of torque. Additionally, the Bajaj has improved the power-to-weight ratio by reducing the weight of the motorcycle. The powerhouse comes mated to a 6 six-speed gearbox which helps achieve high RPMs without any stress on the transmission.

Competitors with the same features:

  • The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V also gets a 197cc engine, developing 20.54 bhp and 17.25 Nm.
  • The KTM Duke 200 comes equipped with a 199.5cc liquid-cooled engine that makes 24.67 bhp and 19.3 Nm.

Muscular Design Language

Bajaj Pulsar NS200

The Pulsar NS200 is one of the most stylish motorcycles in the 200cc segment. It features a sporty design language with sharp blade-like speed lines, giving it an aggressive and appealing look. Additionally, the Street Fighter gets a black chrome, grey and carbon fibre finish contour to add to the sporty design. Last but not least, the Pulsar NS200 offers a forward-biased riding position for better ergonomics and engaging riding as well.

Competitors with the same features:

  • The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V also features a sporty and aggressive design language which is suitable for both commuting and weekend cruising.
  • The KTM 200 Duke also offers a forward-inclined riding stance that promotes rider involvement.

Technology and Handling

Bajaj Pulsar NS200

The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 features upside-down front forks which significantly increase the ride comfort and enhance the visual appeal as well. The Street Fighter is built on the perimeter frame which gives a sense of confidence with high stiffness and low flex. Apart from this, you get an upgraded digital instrument console that shows important ride-related information such as distance-to-empty readout, gear indicator, average fuel economy and instantaneous fuel economy.

Competitors with the same features:

  • In comparison, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V gets Showa front suspension and Show rear mono-shock (no USD front forks). In terms of connectivity, the Apache RTR 200 gets TVS SmartXonnect Bluetooth tech which enables several connected features.

Safety

Bajaj Pulsar NS200

The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 stands strong when it comes to safety. It features a dual-channel ABS which prevents wheel locking in case of emergency. Also, you get safe braking performance with a 300mm front disc and 230mm rear disc brakes. These safety features are further complimented with wider 17-inch tyres that offer a strong grip on any type of terrain.

Competitors with the same features:

  • The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V offers a smaller 270 mm front disc and 240mm at the rear side. It gets TVS 90/90 -17 490 tyres at the front and Eurogrip 130/70 R17 tyres at the rear.

Missing Features: Must-Haves in the Segment

Ride modes

Bajaj Pulsar NS200

The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 misses out on the multiple ride modes that help adjust the engine output and throttle response according to the different riding situations. This feature becomes very useful when a rider navigates different types of terrains daily.

Competitors that offer this feature:

  • In comparison, the Apache RTR 200 4V gets three riding modes- Sport, Urban and Rain that adjust ABS intervention and engine output accordingly.

Slipper Clutch

The Bajaj Pulsar doesn't get any slipper clutch which compromises on safety of the rider. For the unversed, a slipper clutch prevents wheel hopping when you downshift the gears suddenly. This feature is now becoming common in 200cc segment motorcycles, but there is no variant on offer with a slipper clutch for the Pulsar NS200.

Competitors that offer this feature:

  • The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V gets an Anti-Reverse Torque slipper clutch. However, this feature is limited to the selected variant of the motorcycle, but at least you get it.

Verdict

The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 stands out as a strong contender in the 200cc segment with its powerful engine, aggressive design, and advanced handling features. However, it falls short by lacking key modern features like ride modes and a slipper clutch, which are becoming standard in its class. While it's a solid choice for performance enthusiasts, those seeking the latest tech might find better options elsewhere.
