First launched in 2019, an update was the need of the hour and the company started fueling the marketing activities in July 2022, when a teaser of the interiors was shared, revealing the '14 inch' infotainment system. We have already come across plenty of camouflaged spy images doing rounds on the internet. Now as we are nearing the launch date, the MG Hector Facelift is out in full flesh, even before the official unveiling, thus revealing all the details about the SUV. 2023 MG Hector Facelift First Impressions: What's New? Exterior Design
The first and most noticeable change in the exterior design is the all-new Argyle-inspired Diamond mesh grille, which assimilates into the sleek LED DRLs with the subtle use of chrome. The new grille takes occupied a large part of the front fascia and is flanked by the main headlight unit on both ends. The unit remains the same with a pentagonal housing, however, the chrome work around it has been replaced by black inserts. The air intake is placed at the bottom end and is surrounded by a thin chrome strip running all over. Overall, the new model features a more sporty appeal, further accentuated by sharp creases which sit well with the design elements.
Having a look at the side profile and you will quickly realise that everything remains the same and it cleanly retains the 18-inch alloy wheels from the current model. The changes are quite subtle at the rear as the new SUV retains the LED tail lamp design, however, it has now become a single continuous unit running across the width, all thanks to the inclusion of a lighting strip in between, replacing the reflectors. The rear bumper has been given a rework, as it gets squared off edges and the faux dual muffler design now appears more defined.
2023 MG Hector Facelift First Impressions: Interior Layout
The interiors of the MG Hector Facelift have been given a complete turnaround, making it more luxurious and sophisticated. The highlight of the cabin is the all-new 14-inch HD portrait infotainment system. Along with this, it sports an altogether new dashboard layout with an updated digital instrument cluster, a new design for air-con vents and well laid-out centre console. Some of the main features on the MG Hector Facelift include ADAS, multi-colour ambient lighting, a 360-degree parking camera, ventilated front seats, a powered driver's seat, wireless smartphone connectivity features with voice assist and more.
2023 MG Hector Facelift First Impressions: Powertrain
As is the case with facelifts, the powertrain options will be retained from the current model. The MG Hector Facelift will continue to be propelled by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, with power output rated at 167 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The option of an automatic gearbox with the diesel engine has always been demanded by customers and we have to wait for the launch for that. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine puts out 143 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque, mated to a manual and a CVT automatic gearbox. It also gets the mild hybrid system in a few manual variants.

Verdict: The 2023 MG Hector Facelift is not a major leap, however the updated sporty exterior design, new sophisticated interior layout and added tech features will make it a worthy upgrade over the outgoing model. A lot depends on the final pricing and the added equipment will surely command a good premium. A diesel automatic powertrain and the current Hector being sold alongside the new model are the two main points which are left to be discovered and the story will uncover on the launch day.
