Tata Altroz is the most talked premium hatchback of its segment and buyers were not so fond of its pricing. The diesel range of the Altroz was priced at Rs 1.6 lakh premium and that's the caveat. To improve the sales of Altroz diesel, Tata Motors has now reduced the prices by Rs 40,000. All the variants of the Tata Altroz diesel see the 40,000 price drop, except for the XE trim.
The reason for the low sales of Tata Altroz diesel is not entirely correct as the dealer dispatch of Altroz diesel was started a couple of months ago. With the 1.6 lakh premium over the feeble 1.2-litre petrol, it was a tough sell unless someone only wants a diesel. However, our money has always been on the diesel as that is more potent.
Variants | New Price | Old Price | Difference |
XE | 6.99 lakh | 6.99 lakh | - |
XM | 7.50 lakh | 7.90 lakh | 40,000 |
XT | 8.19 lakh | 8.59 lakh | 40,000 |
XZ | 8.79 lakh | 9.19 lakh | 40,000 |
XZ (O) | 8.95 lakh | 9.35 lakh | 40,000 |
Having a displacement of 1500cc, the turbo-diesel has been detuned to 90 PS and mated to a 5-speed. In the Nexon, the engine produces 110 PS and 260 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual. In the Altroz, the same unit produces 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual. Moreover, the 1.2-litre petrol engine has been carried over from the Tigor and it produces the same 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

We have waited long for the turbo incarnation of the 1.2 petrol but there is still no legit launch date from Tata Motors. As the diesel engine of the Altroz is now affordable, it should be your pick. Although the price gap is still over 1.2 lakh, the diesel engine will bring better driveability, power and fuel economy on the table. All the diesel variants of the Altroz have seen a price drop of Rs 40,000 except for the XE. The XE variant still carries the 1.6 lakh premium price tag and it should not be your pick thanks to lack of features and skinny wheels.
