Mahindra recently launched the XUV300 with a BS6 compliant petrol engine and now we bring you the exclusive video of BS6 diesel variant being tested on Indian roads. Mahindra will launch the XUV300 before April and we expect it to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.
We spotted the XUV300 on test in Gurugram and as seen in the video, it was wearing heavy camouflage. There was no emission testing equipment connected to the tailpipe hints that it might be the final testing phase. Mahindra launched the BS6 compliant XUV300 petrol on 3rd December 2019 and it received a price hike of Rs 20000 across all variants. In this regard, we can expect a price hike of Rs 30000-40000 for the diesel variants as it is considerably expensive to make diesel engines BS6 compliant.
The BS6 diesel will receive the same 115 hp and 300 Nm of torque paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed quick shift AMT gearbox. The fuel efficiency will also remain largely unchanged, same as the case with the petrol engine. Mahindra hasn't launched the XUV300 with a petrol AMT and it is only available as an option with the diesel engine. The segment is shifting towards the petrol, Maruti Suzuki will discontinue the Vitara Brezza diesel and they are prepared to launch the Vitara Brezza facelift with a 1.5-litre petrol engine only.
The market is shifting to petrol but Mahindra hasn't launched the XUV300 with any automatic which is not a vice decision. Upcoming Renault HBC and Kia QYI will make the competition fiercer and Renault HBC will only be available with a turbo petrol engine.
