Citroen launched their entry-level hatchback C3 in the Indian market a few weeks ago at a price of Rs 5.71 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Made available in two variants Live and Feel, the car only gets a manual gearbox with both engines. There's no automatic as of now but as per sources on the internet, Citroen will introduce the 6-speed automatic gearbox with the C3 in the second half of 2023.
This 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will be sourced from a Japanese manufacturer, Aisin. This gearbox is a similar unit that is seen in Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, Skoda Slavia, VW Virtus (all with 1.0L unit) and even with 1.3L MG Astor.
What's also new is that the French carmaker will be re-introducing the 1.2L petrol motor too next year. This will make the same power and peak torque but will work efficiently with the 6-speed AT unit. It will deliver a good fuel economy and is expected to reduce emissions.

While a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox might be a disadvantage because of the higher costs, the French carmaker believes that the first in segment feature will definitely target those looking for a smooth driving experience. Other cars in the segment are offered with an AMT unit only as an option.
Currently, C3 is offered with two engine options - 1.2L non-turbo petrol and 1.2L turbo petrol. The naturally aspirated motor belts out 81 bhp of power with a peak torque of 115 Nm while the 1.2L, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine produces a peak power and torque of 109 bhp and 190 Nm.
