KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Force Motors seems to be working on a pickup version of the Gurkha
- Will be based on the Force Cruiser MUV
- To come with the same 2.6-litre, Mercedes-Benz sourced turbo diesel engine
Force Motors appears to be developing a new body style for its Gurkha off-roader. While the company has been testing a Gurkha 5-door for some time, a pickup truck version has now been seen in testing without any camouflage. The Force Gurkha pickup truck is based on a model first introduced by Indonesia's Republik Motor under the Ksatria brand, which was designed for military applications and unveiled at the Defence Expo and Forum.

Force Gurkha Pickup Spotted
The test mule that was recently spotted appears to be based on the Force Cruiser MUV and features a dual-cabin layout with four doors and a pickup bed. If it is launched, this pickup truck will be included in the Gurkha lineup, which currently consists of the 3-door Gurkha. The side hinged tailgate of the test mule indicates that the model is a chopped version of the Cruiser MUV, rather than a proper pickup truck with a bottom-hinged tailgate. Had it been made from scratch, it would have likely had a proper pickup truck design.
On the side profile, the Gurkha pickup shown in testing has the same 18-inch alloy wheels as the Gurkha 5-door test mules. The pickup's front is anticipated to resemble the Gurkha SUV's. In addition, the rear windscreen incorporates a sliding glass that allows cabin passengers to access the cargo bay. Additionally, it is anticipated that the interior would resemble the Gurkha SUV.

Force Gurkha Pickup Engine
The upcoming Gurkha pickup truck is expected to feature the same FM CR 2.6L turbo diesel engine as other Force vehicles, which is sourced from Mercedes-Benz. It will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and capable of producing 90 bhp of power and 250Nm of peak torque. There are also speculations of a 4X4 system with mechanically locking rear and front differentials being included in the pickup truck.
Verdict: With the Gurkha pickup, Force Motors seems to be attempting to break into the personal vehicle pickup truck market. The only two vehicles available at this time in this segment are the expensive Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. The Gurkha pickup vehicle may become the most affordable pickup truck under Rs. 20 lakh if it is introduced in India.
