In a recent statement by Shashank Shrivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki, it has been revealed that the discounts on the Jimny will see a substantial reduction from January 2024. Despite this, the automaker has clarified that it will not decrease the prices of the SUV to stimulate sales. Maruti Suzuki had introduced discounts of up to 1 lakh on the Suzuki Jimny in the last few months of 2023. Additionally, the brand has recently announced a price hike across its range, with details of the increase yet to be disclosed.
Maruti Jimny: Mechanics
Maruti Suzuki has maintained the Jimny's specifications, retaining the dependable 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, K-series petrol engine. This engine provides a power output of 103 bhp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 134 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The transmission options include a 5-speed manual for enthusiasts who prefer manual control and a 4-speed automatic for those seeking effortless cruising.
No Toyota Spin-offs For Swift, Jimny
Suzuki has confirmed that the Maruti Swift and Maruti Jimny will remain exclusive to their brand, rejecting Toyota's interest in rebadging these models for its lineup. Suzuki stated that the Swift and Jimny are integral to its brand identity, and sharing them with Toyota would dilute their iconic status. While the Swift holds an iconic position in the market with consistent monthly sales of over 17,100 units, Suzuki remains committed to keeping these models exclusive. Toyota's interest is understandable, considering the success of collaborative models like the Glanza and Rumion, which contribute around 25 percent to Toyota's total monthly sales. The proposal for a Toyota-badged Swift was politely declined by Suzuki.
Verdict
The discounts are coming down soon and an impending price hike looms around the entire portfolio of Maruti. Interestingly, various manufacturers have conveyed their intentions of an incoming price starting this new year. However, Maruti is yet to announce the quantun of hike and if there are any models unaffected.
