It's been a while since Maruti has been teasing their upcoming mid-size SUV and looks like the surprise has finally come to an end. Maruti Suzuki will finally unveil the 2022 Grand Vitara on July 20th and ahead of its official launch that is expected in September, the pre-bookings for the same have commenced at just Rs 11,000.
Maruti Suzuki is India's largest car manufacturer that is adapting to the new norms of the industry and catering to the needs of young buyers. Just recently they launched the new-age Brezza that not only gets a better fuel economy because of a new 1.5L DualJet motor but also gets loads of modern features and safety equipment.
Sharing details of the upcoming Grand Vitara then it sits on the same platform as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder that was unveiled a few days ago. The Grand Vitara too will be offered with the same mild-hybrid and strong hybrid engine and expect most of the features to remain the same. What's interesting is that the Grand Vitara will be sold via NEXA outlets which is the premium offering from Maruti Suzuki. Sadly, if reports are to be believed then the S-Cross will soon be discontinued.

Mechanically, the new Grand Vitara will be powered by two engine options - a 1.5L mild-hybrid that is seen on the Brezza and 1.5L strong hybrid which is borrowed from Toyota. The former is expected to belt out the same peak power and torque as the Brezza which is 102 bhp and 135 Nm respectively. It will be mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard and a 6-speed torque converter automatic as an option. There will be an AWD setup with this engine.
The 1.5L strong hybrid motor as found in the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder pumps out 91 bhp of power with a peak torque of 122 Nm while the electric motor produces peak power and torque of 78 bhp and 141 Nm respectively. The useable power and peak torque stand at 114 bhp and 141 Nm respectively. This engine gets mated to a CVT unit and it only comes with a 2WD set-up. We expect the same power and torque figure in the Grand Vitara as well.
