India is a tough market when the hot hatches are considered - for some they are pocket rockets and for some, they are just too expensive to maintain. Before we start, Volkswagen has dropped the 1.2L GT TSI motor for a smaller 1.0L unit. And before BS6 we had several turbo cars like the Maruti Baleno RS, Fiat Punto Abarth and Tiago JTP but they got discontinued!

Volkswagen Polo has quite an edge of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios turbo as it not only provides greater power but also gets an optional automatic gearbox. In terms of power, the 1.0L TSI petrol motor of Polo makes 109 bhp which is 10 bhp more than Grand i10 Nios Turbo. The latter makes 99 bhp only!
We can equally compare the torque figures as there is hardly any difference to be seen there. The Polo makes 174 Nm of peak torque at 1,750 rpm while Nios Turbo spools 172 Nm at 1,500 rpm. So we can consider the power to weight ratio in mind and it is safe to say that Nios turbo is quicker than Polo TSI on paper.

While the Volkswagen Polo 1.0L TSI edges over Grand i10 Nios turbo in terms of power figures, the fuel efficiency is where it lacks its peak. The Nios Turbo delivers a healthy 20.3 km/l compared to 18.24 km/l of Polo 1.0L TSI.
