- Hyundai i20 prices taken off the website
- Move due to the new RDE norms kicking in.
- Now available only in petrol
Courtesy of the new RDE norms, Hyundai has discontinued the diesel variants of the Hyundai i20. Earlier this year, Hyundai updated its line-up with RDE-compliant engines. Also, some feature updates were also given. Complementing all of this, was the price hike of course.
Let's get into the details of this new development.
Diesel Variants Axed
Hyundai after updating the engines of all the cars in its lineup decided to discontinue the diesel variants of the i20. This has been done to comply with the RDE norms. The prices for the same have been removed from the website.
Hyundai offered the i20 with a 1.5L turbo diesel engine. While the same engine is also available with the Creta, Alcazar, Kia Seltos, and Carens, the one on the i20 was a wastegate turbocharger with a lower tune. The 1.5L turbo diesel engine is available with the Creta, Alcazar, Kia Sonet, Seltos, and Carens, and now complies with the upcoming RDE norms.
However, the 1.5L turbo diesel will not be updated to meet the stringent emission standards. You can expect more such moves from other car makers as well.

Hyundai i20 Engine Options Now
The turbo petrol variants of the i20 with the auto-clutch manual transmission are also axed. Currently, the i20 comes with 2 engine options a 1.2L normal petrol engine and a 1.0L turbo petrol engine. While the turbo petrol engine is coming with only a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT), the 1.2L normal petrol engine comes with either a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). These are the only options available for you.
VERDICT- The i20 and the Altroz were the only mass-market cars to be offered in a diesel variant. Maruti shifted to a petrol-only and hybrid way before. You can expect some more developmental shifts in the coming days. The year 2023 is will be a happening year for you as a new car buyer.
