cng cars

At Rs 6.20 lakh (ex-showroom), the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 S-CNG is the most affordable CNG car and also the smallest car in this list. The Alto K10 S-CNG is available in two different variants; the LXi (O) at Rs 5.89 lakh, and the VXi (O) at Rs 6.20 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The powertrain is the same 998cc K10C unit paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, producing 55.9bhp and 82.1Nm of torque in CNG mode, while in petrol mode, these figures go up to 66.7bhp and 91.1Nm of torque.

In terms of features, these variants do not really pack a lot of things, but you do get basic bluetooth connectivity for your smartphone, power steering, reverse parking sensors, ABS, and four airbags among other things. The VXi (O) variant adds on a 2-speaker sound system, front power windows, and internally-adjustable ORVMs.

CNG Cars Under Rs 10 Lakh: Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Unlike the Alto K10 S-CNG that is available in two different variants, the Celerio S-CNG is available in a single VXi variant only, priced at Rs 6.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Celerio CNG also carries over the same K10C unit producing 55.9bhp and 82.1Nm of torque in CNG mode, and 66.7bhp and 91.1Nm of torque in petrol mode,

The Celerio CNG is also similar to the Alto K10 S-CNG LXi, in the sense that it also does not come loaded with too many frills, but it does come with four airbags, electronically-adjustable ORVMs, power windows, reverse parking sensors, and central locking.

CNG Cars Under Rs 10 Lakh: Maruti Suzuki Eeco

cng cars

Imagine a car with a four-cylinder powertrain, a manual transmission, and rear-wheel drive? The Eeco is the answer! Available in a 5-seater CNG variant which can be had from Rs 6.70 lakh onwards, the Eeco is the only rear-wheel drive car in India to be offered in CNG guise.

The Eeco is powered by a 1.2-litre K10C engine, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. It is one of the few cars in our country to today to not feature an automatic transmission, and it is the only rear-wheel drive car in this list. There aren't too many frills on offer, but the Eeco does receive air-conditioning and a music player slot. What's interesting is that the Eeco continues to sell well over 10,000 units even today!

CNG Cars Under Rs 10 Lakh: Maruti Suzuki WagonR CNG

cng cars

The WagonR has been among the highest-selling cars in the country today, and it also comes in a CNG guise, but with the smaller 1.0-litre K10C powertrain only. The 1.2-litre powertrain misses out. Available in two variants, the LXi costs Rs 6.54 lakh, while the VXi can be had from Rs 6.99 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

The WagonR LXi CNG also does not pack even the basic connectivity and infotainment bits as standard, but it does come equipped with two front airbags, ABS, seat belt reminders, and rear parking sensors among other things. The VXi CNG variant adds in central locking, a two-speaker sound system, and a regular built-in bluetooth connectivity system.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

cng cars

The Fronx recently became the highest-selling cars in the Indian market, and that's due to the set of strengths it comes packing with. The Sigma CNG comes in at Rs 8.47 lakh, while the Delta CNG can be had from Rs 9.33 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).

The former packs in things such as reverse parking sensors, dual front airbags, ESP, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a day/night IRVM, all four power windows, keyless entry and climate control. Meanwhile the Delta CNG adds in a 7-inch infotainment touch screen with wireless smartphone connectivity, OTA updates, electronically-adjustable ORVMs with turn-indicators, and a four-speaker sound system among other things.

The Fronx CNG makes do with the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder powertrain from the Baleno, with the 5-speed manual transmission and identical power/torque output figures.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

cng cars

The Dzire is one of the only three compact sedans in this list, and much like its siblings, it is also available in two variants; the VXi at Rs 8.78 lakh, and the ZXi at Rs 9.88 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The Aura CNG is available in four variants; E, S Corporate, and SX. The top-end SX (O) cannot be specced with the CNG powertrain option.

Prices for the Aura CNG range between Rs 7.54 lakh to Rs 9.11 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). Tata Tigor iCNG

Similar to its hatchback sibling, the Tigor iCNG is also available in six variants, with prices ranging between Rs 7.69 lakh to Rs 9.44 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tigor iCNG is the only car in its segment to come with an automatic transmission option.

In terms of features, the Tigor iCNG receives a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired smartphone connectivity, a reverse parking camera, a four-speaker sound system with two tweeters, powered ORVMs, and hill-hold control among other things from the XZ variant itself. Underneath the skin, the Tigor iCNG is identical to the Tigor, with the same powertrain and performance figures.

Tata Punch iCNG

The Punch iCNG is among the few Tata cars to not receive an AMT gearbox option, and it is available in seven different variants, with prices ranging between Rs 7.29 lakh to Rs 9.99 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The Punch iCNG packs in the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder powertrain, but with figures of 72.4bhp and 103Nm of torque in CNG mode, and 86.6bhp and 115Nm of torque in petrol mode.

The Adventure+ variant packs in a 7-inch Harman touch screen infotainment system, a reverse parking camera, a four-speaker sound system with two tweeters, and wired smartphone connectivity among other things.

In terms of specifications, the Altroz iCNG is identical to the Punch iCNG.

The XZ variant comes equipped with automatic climate control, a 15-litre cooled glovebox, a reverse parking camera, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, rear wiper/washer, projector headlamps, push-button start/stop, and ambient lighting among other things.

The Nexon iCNG is the only CNG car in this list to come with a turbo-petrol powertrain, featuring the 1.2-litre mill producing 98.5bhp and 170Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Nexon iCNG's most affordable variants are the Smart and Smart+, which can be for Rs 8.99 lakh and Rs 9.99 lakh respectively (all prices ex-showroom).

The Smart+ comes with powered ORVMs, a 7-inch infotainment touch screen with wired smartphone connectivity, follow-me headlamps, and a flip key central locking system.

Verdict

With so many CNG cars available in the country, customers get to choose from a wide range, which is especially beneficial for those not ready to switch to EVs just yet. The CNG infrastructure is also slowly spreading to other parts of the country, making it more accessible to a wider audience.
