The Euro NCAP has released the crash test details of the India-bound Hyundai Tucson and the SUV has managed to score a 5-star rating.
Hyundai unveiled the fourth-generation Tucson globally back in September last year. The same is expected to hit Indian shores officially early next year. The disguised Tucson test mules have already been spotted being driven on Indian roads. To make matters further exciting, the India-bound Tucson just scored a full-five star in the NCAP crash test.
The Hyundai Tucson scored 86% in Adult Occupant, and 87% in Child Occupant. The test model was the European-spec 1.6T GDI model. It came equipped with dual front airbags, side airbags, seat belt-pre-tensioner, load-limiter, lane assists, speed assistance, Automatic Emergency Braking, and seat-belt reminder as part of its safety test.
The fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson is based on the Hyundai-Kia N3 Platform. This also underpins the Hyundai Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, and the Kia Sportage. This new platform was developed with increased rigidity and torsional stiffness and supports both front-wheel and all-wheel drivetrains. From the crash test images, the rigidity of the platform is clearly evident. As far as its body is concerned, both A-Pillar and B-Pillar remain unaffected in the frontal collision test, and it slightly bends in the side collision test.

The airbag deployment is on time as well, without much delay. The side airbags were deployed safely during the side crash test. Theres another airbag hidden behind the front drivers seat, and that deployed on time as well. Both the front row passenger and second-row passengers did get a jolt from the impact, but the effect was largely succumbed by the safety equipment onboard. The other Indian SUV to have scored full-5 stars from the NCAP was the Mahindra XUV700.
Hyundai has not confirmed the official date for the launch of the fourth-generation Tucson, yet. Once it comes to India, it will boast of the same heavily re-designed exterior. There will also be a significant update in the features list, but the 2.0-liter diesel engine remains the same, mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
