If you're even a little into cars, which you clearly are, as you are reading this piece, you are very well aware of the Maruti-Toyota Joint Venture. Since You are aware the Toyota Glanza and Toyota Hyryder are nothing but rebadged Maruti cars. With a little design tweaking of course. This was the Toyota adopting Maruti movers. But things are going the other way around too, and very soon. Yes, Innova Hycross based Maruti is already on the cards and its timeline of reveal has been revealed.
Let us quickly get into the highlights and the timeline
Innova Hycross Based Maruti MPV Coming Very Soon
Very soon the Toyota Innova Hycross is coming with a rebranding under the Maruti tag. It will be sold under the Nexa showroom outlets.
The joint venture currently operates with both manufacturers rebranding cars from each other and selling them with a distinct design element. Up to now, Toyota was selling Maruti Baleno under Toyota Glanza and the Grand Vitara under Toyota Hyryder badging. What differentiated them was the updated front facia, and to some extent, the interior styling.
But this time around, the workhorse Toyota is ready to be christened a new name under the house of Maruti. This Maruti MPV is ready to hit the shores in the next two months. This info was delivered by none other than the Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava. It is expected to come in both normal petrol as well the strong hybrid version.
What To Expect
The Maruti MPV is coming with fresh styling elements at the front. While the dashboard layout remains the same, it is coming with a new color theme. The headlamps formation, bumper, and front grille could receive a different treatment. The alloy wheels will see a different styling as well. Apart from cosmetic changes, everything pretty much will be the same.
Powertrain
The Innova Hycross gets two engine options and we expect the Maruti MPV to get both of them. The base option is a 173PS 2-liter naturally aspirated petrol, while the top-spec variant is a 186PS 2-liter strong-hybrid mill. They come with a CVT and e-CVT, respectively, and drive the front wheels. These will be replicated with Maruti as Toyota will manufacture these MPVs for them.
VERDICT- This move will help Maruti with its MPV segment. Innova is already a charm and it will work for the company as well. It will not find it difficult to roll these out of their showrooms. The demand of Toyota Hycross stands such that the top-end ZX and ZX(O) trims booking has been halted due to high demand, which is merry news for Maruti. Coming somewhere in June or July, it remains to be seen as to how the styling evolves.
