Its the 20th anniversary of Maruti WagonR in India

It was way back in 1999 when Maruti launched its tall boy hatchback, the WagonR. Ever since, the hatchback has been among Indias top 10 largest car models and in the past few years, has edged past most other cars to be in the top 5 list! Popular with both commercial users and private buyers, heres wishing the Maruti WagonR a very anniversary in the Indian car market.

The Maruti WagonR has been a part of 24 lakh families in India and we are sure, most of us, at some point of time have either owned one or had one in the family. 1/4th of new WagonR buyers have been repeat customers and the car is currently sold with two petrol engine options that can be had with both manual and automatic transmissions. A CNG fuel type is also offered. Its popularity can be gauged by the fact that the current model hit the 1 lakh mark with 7 months of its launch!

Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, We are delighted as we celebrate the incredible and successful journey of two decades of WagonR. Creating a strong legacy of performance and utility, WagonR has kept pace with the changing times, in line with the needs and aspirations of customers. With one out of four customers of WagonR coming back for a repurchase, it reflects the strong brand appeal and customer affinity for the brand. We have not witnessed such customer loyalty for any of our other models. We thank our customers for their trust towards Wagon R, to make it a huge success.

The Maruti WagonR is currently in its 3rd generation here in the Indian car market. When launched, it came with 1.1-litre petrol engine that put out 64 bhp of power and 84 Nm of torque. The second generation WagonR was launched in 2010 and got change in and out. The 1.1-litre motor was replaced with a more efficient 1.0 unit - the same that also powers the Celerio and the Alto K10. The current gen was launched in Jan19 and is the peppiest car in the price band, thanks to an optional 1.2-litre engine. Prices start at Rs 4.42 lakh and there are benefits of upto 45,000 on the model.
