With BS6 Phase-2 compliant engines, Jeep India has updated its Compass and Meridian SUVs. The brand has added OBD-II diagnostic equipment as part of the RDE requirements in order to monitor emissions in real-time. In addition to updating the engine to comply with current standards, the manufacturer has reduced the cost of the base models of both SUVs. The base model's price has reportedly been reduced by much to Rs 2.35 lakh, according to reports.

Jeep Compass & Meridian Price Update
With the Sport variant, the SUV's entry-level model, costs for the Compass have been drastically reduced. After a price reduction of Rs 1.08 lakh, the Jeep Compass Sport Petrol AT currently costs Rs 20.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Sport AT diesel model, on the other hand, has seen a price increase of Rs 35,000 and now costs Rs 21.44 lakh (ex-showroom). Moreover, all other diesel variants have seen a constant price increase of Rs 35,000. The price range for diesel currently begins at Rs 21.44 lakh and rises to Rs 31.64 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Meridian, a seven-seater SUV from Jeep, has seen a price reduction of Rs 2.35 lakh for its base Limited trim. With a price reduction, the Meridian Limited MT model, which was earlier priced at Rs 30.10 lakh (ex-showroom), now costs Rs 27.75 lakh (ex-showroom). All other variations, excluding the base model, have seen a price increase of Rs 35,000. Now, the Jeep Meridian is priced between Rs. 27.75 lakh and Rs. 37.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Jeep Compass & Meridian Engine Options
The Jeep Compass has a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces 250 Nm of maximum torque and 161 bhp of power. A 7-speed DCT transmission and choices are available for this engine. A 2.0-liter diesel engine with 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque is the alternative engine choice. A 6-speed manual and a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission are paired with this engine. The Meridian shares an identical diesel engine with the Jeep Compass and is only offered with a single diesel engine. Both SUVs' 4X4 configurations are only offered with a 9-speed torque converter transmission.
Verdict: The base variant's price cut may be an effort to draw more people to both SUVs. New buyers may be drawn in by the increased prices, while others may be turned off by the price hikes on other models.
