Mahindra XUV e8: Leaked Patent Image Reveals Production-Spec Design

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mahindra XUV e8 design patent leaks
  • Hints at loyalty to its concept reveal
  • Draws major inspiration from the XUV700

It has been previously revealed that Mahindra is developing an electric version of the XUV700 SUV, which was showcased as a concept called the XUV.e8 in August of the previous year. Recently, a leaked design patent has surfaced, giving us a glimpse of the production-spec XUV.e8 and indicating that it remains faithful to the original concept.

Let's delve into the details and examine it more closely.

Mahindra XUV e8: Design Stays True

The leaked patent image provides a revealing glimpse into the production-spec XUV.e8, showcasing a remarkable similarity in body panel design with the concept version. Interestingly, this resemblance also extends to the existing XUV700 model, suggesting a consistent design language across the lineup. This is also noticeable with the XUV300 facelift spy shots that aim at a signature design language across the Mahindra portfolio.

The patent reveals a LED connecting beam at the front hugging along the bumper at both ends. The front grill shut-off with headlamps integrated into the bumper hints at proper EV styling cues that we already have seen with some cars. Also, looking at the wheels, they are going to drape more material in order to reduce the air drag. Moreover, the front and rear facia is going to be the major departure from XUV700 styling. Meanwhile, the side profiling suggests that the bodyshell is from the top gun XUV700.

It's noteworthy that the XUV.e8 shares conceptual similarities with the XUV700, featuring a comparable profile and accommodating three rows of seats. However, what sets it apart is its foundation on Mahindra's born-electric INGLO skateboard platform. This platform is specifically designed for electric vehicles. It will feature an all-wheel drive system, providing enhanced traction and performance. Meanwhile, with a battery pack ranging up to 80kWh, it suggests a substantial electric range and supports a sustainable driving experience. The power outputs spanning from 230hp to over 350hp indicate a powerful and dynamic driving performance.

On top of this, the XUV.e8 will be the first among Mahindra's upcoming EVs to enter production. The planned market release by December 2024 suggests that Mahindra is actively working towards bringing this electric SUV to customers in the near future.

Verdict

In a shift towards electric mobility, Mahindra is taking a very thought out roadmap. With nailing ICE to electric ruote, the next product are coming ground up. While this makes for a more practical EV, it can also turn out as the concept revealed earlier.
