In a bid to provide cleaner fuel options to the Indian car market, the country's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki is now planning to bring in Dzire CNG. The launch of Maruti Dzire CNG seems possible in few months and for what it seems, the mid-spec VXI variant will be equipped with S-CNG technology.
The S-CNG technology is the company's strongest point for an alternate fuel since they discontinued diesel engines altogether. With the S-CNG, fuel costs are just little when compared with the conventional fuels To top it off as how successful S-CNG is then Maruti achieved one lakh sales milestone of S-CNG cars just over a year ago.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire is currently offered with a 1.2L, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol motor. This engine churns out 89 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. Surprisingly, even in the petrol form, the Dzire delivers an excellent mileage of 24.12 kmpl in the AMT variants and 23.26 kmpl in the manual ones. These are ARAI certified figures.

We believe that with the introduction of CNG, the power figures will take a hit by an expected 10%. Mind you, this upcoming model will come with a 5-speed stick shift only. Its rival Hyundai Aura delivers 28 km/kg on the CNG version and we believe the Dzire CNG can deliver more.
The variant spied seems to be the VXI that gets decent features on the go. You get manual HVAC controls, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, power-folding ORVMs, LED taillights, integrated 2-Din audio system with AUX-in and Bluetooth connectivity.
Safety-wise, the VXI variant is equipped with dual-front airbags, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, ISOFIX mount child seat points, a high-speed alert system, front seat belts warning, rear parking sensors and among others. The higher variant of the Dzire also gets a reverse parking camera.

The S-CNG vehicles come with dual interdependent ECUs, a micro switch that ensures that the car turns off and does not start during the CNG refuelling process. You also get a switch that helps you in changing fuel type if you want.
Currently, the prices of Maruti Dzire VXI sticks to 7.04 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi and with the CNG we can expect a premium of Rs 60,000. Maruti has six cars that are equipped with factory-fitted CNG. Those are Alto 800, Celerio, Wagon R, Ertiga and S-Presso.
