- Maruti Suzuki Jimny is available in two variants, i.e. Alpha & Zeta
- It will be sold under the NEXA brand
- AllGrip Pro 4WD system comes as standard with a manual or automatic transmission option
Maruti Suzuki launched the Jimny 5-door SUV with ALLGRIP PRO (4WD) system at the 2023 auto expo. The Jimny SUV has been launched under the NEXA brand and it will be available in just two variants, ie. Zeta and Alpha. Which variant should you go with? What's the difference between both variants? Which variant gets what features? Well, that's what we have discussed here.
Engine & Drivetrain Option:
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is being offered with a single engine option, i.e. a four-cylinder 1462cc petrol engine producing 104PS of power and 134NM of torque. The engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic gearbox. The Jimny gets the AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a low-range transfer gear (4L mode) and a brake-limited slip differential as standard in both variants. Therefore, on the engine and drivetrain front, there is no difference between the Zeta and Alpha trims.
Features Present On The Zeta Variant:
On the exterior, the Zeta variant gets steel wheels instead of alloys. It also lacks body-colored outside door handles. Moreover, it misses out on some comfort and convenience features like push button start/stop, cruise control, and electrically foldable ORVMs. These features are available in the Alpha trim. The Zeta variant also gets a manual AC rather than a climate control unit present on the Alpha trim. Here's a list of some of the features that zeta trim gets.
Electrically adjustable ORVMs | 17cm touchscreen | Tilt steering |
Front & Rear wiper washer | 4 speakers | Steering mounted controls |
Manual day/night IRVM | Wireless android auto/apple car play | Color display MID |
Rear defogger | All power windows | Tailgate-mounted spare wheel |
Features Present On The Alpha Variant:
The Alpha trim of the Jimny is a tech and feature-loaded trim. Some of the features it gets are auto LED headlamps with washers, push button start/stop, cruise control, auto climate control AC, etc. Here's a list of some features available in the Alpha trim.
Electrically foldable ORVMs | 22cm touchscreen | Cruise control |
Auto LED headlamps | ARKAMYS powered sound system | Alloy wheels |
Fog lamps | Push button start/stop | Body-colored door handles |
Headlamp washers | Auto climate control AC | Leather-wrapped steering wheel |
Common Features In Zeta & Alpha Variants:
Both variants share a number of common features. On the Infotainment front, both variants get a 4-speaker sound system and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. On the safety front, they get features like ABS, EBD, ESP, traction control, hill hold, hill descent control, brake assist, 6 airbags, brake limited slip differential, rear camera, etc.
Verdict: The alpha trim is a good choice if you want a tech and feature-loaded SUV. However, the zeta trim gets almost every essential feature that a regular user would require and one could easily live with what it offers.
