MG Motors To Introduce Two New Electric SUVs By The End Of This FY

Morris Garage Motors was the first automotive manufacturer to introduce an all-electric SUV, MG ZS EV in India at the beginning of 2020. Within two years of time, MG currently has ZS EV, Hector, Hector Plus, and Astor in its portfolio. The company is planning to introduce two new MG electric SUVs in India by the end of the 2022-2023 financial year. 

The company is planning to launch a facelift version of the ZS EV this year and it is believed that it is planning to launch a new compact crossover EV. MG in 2021 introduced Astor in the Indian markets. The car has received a good response from the market however due to the global shortage of semiconductor chips the company is facing issues in its production. That said, the company is also planning to expand its production unit to meet the increasing demand for MG cars.

As it is seen, the Indian automotive industry is gradually shifting towards electric mobility. Almost every carmaker is expected to launch electric cars sooner or later. MG Motors introduced an all-electric SUV, ZS EV in the Indian market in 2020. Though various other options are available in the market, the  ZS EV claims the highest range in its segment with best-in-class features and technology. 

The upcoming ZS EV is expected to come equipped with a 51kWh battery pack that is bigger than the one in the existing model. On a single charge, the e-SUV is expected to run around 480 kms whereas the existing model claims a range of 419 kms. The exterior design of the car has been tweaked a little with a newly designed grille, bumper and headlights.

Inside the cabin, the e-SUV will get a new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with all smartphones, an all-digital drivers display, wireless charging, ADAS, Artificial Intelligence Assistant influenced by Astor. The upcoming MG ZS EV is expected to be costlier than the existing one as it will come with a bigger battery pack and a higher range.

On the other hand, MG will also introduce another electric Compact Crossover EV that is expected to hit the markets by March 2023. The upcoming model is expected to be a pocket-friendly car and would range between Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 16 lakhs (ex-showroom). The compact crossover EV will be built on a global platform, designed and structured for the Indian markets. 

The electric crossover is expected to deliver around 300 kms on a single charge and will directly compete against the likes of Tata Tigor EV and Nexon EV.
