CNG cars are now slowing picking up pace and are enjoying strong demand in the market that was earlier obsessed with diesel cars. Rising fuel prices and partial bans on diesel vehicles are one of the prominent reasons for this shift. In the past few months, we have seen a number of car manufacturers launching CNG powered cars in the market. Maruti Suzuki too is offering a number of CNG cars like the WagonR, Ertiga, S-Presso and the Alto. If reports are to be believed, the brand is also considering CNG versions of the NEXA cars like the Baleno and the Ciaz. Here are all the details of the upcoming NEXA CNG cars that we know so far.
The Maruti Baleno is due for a facelift update and the test mule of the Baleno has been spied on multiple occasions in the recent few weeks. It is believed that the brand may launch the Baleno CNG version soon in the market to give tough competition to the cars like the Tata Altroz and the Hyundai i20. The Baleno is one of the best selling premium hatchbacks in the country and is known to offer a spacious and comfortable cabin. It is worth noting the fact that the Baleno right now is only available with a 1.2-L petrol engine that comes mated to a manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. The CNG version of the car too is expected to feature the same engine.
Apart from the Baleno, the Maruti Ciaz may also get a CNG variant that will be powered by a 1.5-L petrol engine. The Maruti Ciaz CNG may feature the same powertrain that we also see in the Ertiga CNG models. The Ciaz is one of the strongest contenders in the mid-size sedan segment and directly locks its horns with the Hyundai Verna, and the Honda City. The Ciaz CNG will definitely be a practical choice as it will then be one of the most comfortable and spacious CNG cars in the segment that will also offer impressive boot space.
Apart from the Ciaz and the Baleno, Maruti may also introduce a CNG variant of the XL6. The XL6 is the premium version of the Maruti Ertiga that is one of the most affordable MPVs that we have in the market. In addition to this, the Ertiga is also available with a CNG engine and hence it is strongly believed that the brand may introduce the same powertrain option with the XL6.
