Wondering how Skoda Kushaq fares against its rivals (Kia Seltos, Sonet, Hyundai Creta and Honda City)? Here are its pros & cons in comparison to its competitors.
Skoda recently launched the all-new 2021 Skoda Kushaq mid-size SUV in the country. The new Skoda Kushaq is a very important product for Skoda as it is their first offering under the India 2.0 Project. The Kushaq competes in the densely populated mid-size SUV segment and in case, you are still not convinced with it, you can have a look at its alternatives. So, in this article, we have shared with you the pros and cons of Skoda Kushaq vs its Rivals.
Before we begin with its rivals, let me quickly run you through the engine specs of the Kushaq. So, it is available with two turbo petrol engines. The first one is a 1.0-litre TSI that churns out 115 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque. It also gets a 1.5-litre TSI that churns out 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre TSI can also be had with a 6-speed AT and the 1.5-litre TSI with a 7-speed DSG. The new Skoda Kushaq has been recently launched in India and it is priced between Rs 10.49 lakhs - Rs 17.59 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi.
Skoda Kushaq vs Rivals
Hyundai Creta
Price starts at Rs 9.99 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi
Hyundai Creta is the king of the compact SUV segment and the strongest rival of the Skoda Kushaq. The Creta is a very popular car in India. It is imposing, spacious and loaded with features up to the gills. The Creta gets three engine options, out of which two are petrol mills and one is a diesel unit. The first one is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and an IVT. It also gets a 1.5-litre diesel unit paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a torque-converter AT.
Finally, we have the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that comes mated to a 7-speed DCT. Currently, the Hyundai Creta is priced in India between Rs 9.99 lakhs - 17.70 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. In comparison, the new Skoda Kushaq is priced between Rs 10.49 lakhs - Rs 17.59 lakhs, Ex-showroom. The Kushaq doesn't offer a diesel engine and even misses out on some features like the high-end connected car tech and a panoramic sunroof. Moreover, it is even 75 mm and 30 mm shorter in length and width respectively than the Creta but to compensate, it offers a class-leading wheelbase of 2651 mm.
Kia Seltos
Price starts at Rs 9.95 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi
Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta are evenly matched in almost every aspect. The Seltos was recently updated for the year 2021 and now this mid-size SUV gets even more features than before. The Seltos gets the same set of engine options as the Creta. It gets a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine; mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed iMT and an IVT. It gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine; paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a torque-converter AT. It also gets a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DCT.
Kia Seltos is currently priced between Rs 9.95 lakhs - 17.65 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. Skoda Kushaq isn't as feature-rich as the Kia Seltos and again it doesn't get a diesel engine which the Kia offers. The Kia Seltos diesel accounts for almost 45 per cent of its total sales. Thus Skoda Kushaq might end up losing many prospective buyers.
Kia Sonet
Price starts at Rs 6.79 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi
When it comes to comparisons of Skoda Kushaq vs rivals, we can't help include the feature-laden Kia Sonet, a car that is smaller in size but offers truck load of features and multiple powertrain options. The Sonet looks good, offers multiple powertrain options and is a very feature-rich car. Just like Seltos, the Sonet also recently received a minor update. It is available with a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol mill that is paired to a 5-speed MT. It also gets a 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor that comes mated to a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT. Finally, we have the 1.5-litre oil burner that comes mated to a 6-speed MT & a 6-speed torque converter AT.
Kia Sonet is currently priced between Rs 6.79 lakhs - Rs 13.35 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. The Kia Sonet has a smaller footprint than the Skoda Kushaq but it looks stunning and gets a whole lot more features than the Skoda Kushaq. The Sonet even gets a diesel engine and that too with a proper torque-converter AT.

Honda City
Price starts at Rs 10.99 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi
Finally, the last car on this list is the new fifth-generation Honda City. So, in case you aren't an SUV fan and instead want a practical sedan with loads of features, space and driving pleasure at almost the same price point, Honda City can be the perfect pick for you. The Honda City gets a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine and this engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-step CVT. It also gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine that comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox only.
The new-generation Honda City is currently priced in India between Rs 10.99 lakhs - Rs 14.94 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. While the Kushaq looks imposing, the City has a subtle yet premium appeal. Also, the Honda City name has its own legacy, it is very reliable and offers good resale value too. So, you can surely consider it over the Skoda Kushaq.
