Tata Motors, one of the leading automotive manufacturers, has been spied testing another variant of the Safari on roads. The SUV spotted was completely camouflaged and it is expected to be the upcoming petrol variant of Safari. The Tata Safari petrol will also share its engine with the upcoming Harrier petrol.
Both the SUVs are expected to hit the Indian roads by the end of this year. The company thought of producing a petrol variant because of the increasing consumer's demand for a petrol engine especially for the ones living in Delhi, NCR.

Tata Motors recently launched the Dark Edition Safari which sports exclusive features like wireless AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, air purifier and ventilated front and second-row seats available in XT+, XZ+, XZ+ 6 Seater, XTA+, XZA+ and XZA+ 6 Seater versions.
Tata Safari petrol is expected to come powered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, expected to churn out 160BHP of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque. No official statement has been revealed about the upcoming Safari petrol whereas it is expected to come mated to a six-speed torque converter or a dual-clutch automatic transmission. There is a possibility of having a DCT as an optional gearbox to choose.
The existing Tata Safari variants that are available in the market are powered by a 2.0-litre Kyrotec diesel engine that can produce 170PS of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque mated to a six-speed manual and automatic torque converter gearbox. MG Hector, MG Hector Plus and Jeep Compass also sport the same diesel engine.
The existing model asks for a starting price of Rs 14.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and goes up to Rs 23.19 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). If the company launches this Safari Petrol, the SUV might become an economical one for all.
The petrol-spec Safari is expected to be Rs 60,000- Rs 70,000 cheaper than the existing one and is expected to be launched at Rs 14.50 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

On the other hand, Tata Harrier, another huge five-seater SUV will also be launched with the same petrol engine that will come with Safari. Harrier, if launched in petrol, will also get a bit cheaper than the existing one which asks for a starting price of Rs 14.39 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and goes up to Rs 23.19 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Tata Harrier competes against the likes of Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and VW Taigun whereas Safari competes against the likes of Hyundai Alcazar, MGG Hector Plus, and Mahindra XUV700.
