Indian market is diversified when it comes to buying cars. However, lately, the trend has inclined towards SUVs because of their increased height, more road presence and an upright seating position. And Mahindra just picks up the trend to people's taste as they have loads of upcoming SUVs marked for 2020 and 2021! Before you go any further, join in our exclusive 91Wheels Mahindra Whatsapp group for latest updates on Mahindra!
Now, before proceeding further, the majority of these SUVs are a newer generation of the current-gen models. And some just get an electric version for the ongoing versions! From new-gen Mahindra Thar to Electric XUV300 the list goes on!
New Mahindra Thar
Now, the older-gen Thar bid adieu to the Indian market by launching the Signature700 limited edition to the market. It got ABS with EBD as safety features which were the first to be introduced in Thar. Fast forward to 2020, the new-gen model packs in a variety of comfort and convenience features along with safety added up to the brim.
This version will also get the option of factory fitted hard top along with power windows, keyless entry, front-facing rear seats, automatic climate control and more. The new Thar has also increased in dimensions and packs in more space on the inside.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric
The eXUV300 will take on the likes of already popular Tata Nexon EV and is based on the MESMA (Mahindra Electric Scalable Modular Architecture) platform. Like the Nexon EV, the batteries on the XUV300 electric will be placed into the floor. This helps in achieving a low centre of gravity and creates maximum cabin space.
According to the reports, the electric XUV300 is expected to come with two battery options - 40kWh and the bigger 60 kWh one. The latter will provide 450 km of the driving range which is close to what more expensive Hyundai Kona makes. This will be fruitful for those who cover long distances. The smaller 40 kWh battery pack will get 370 km of the driving range which comes to 300 km in real driving condition.
Upcoming Mahindra Scorpio
Like the XUV500, the Scorpio is also showing its age now. It came in with two engine options - the 2.5L diesel and 2.2L diesel. The latter saw the light of BS6 but it is the former which is discontinued now. The 2.5L one was popular in rural areas. This 2.2L makes in 140 bhp on tap. Once the new model is launched, we expect some increase in power figures.
The newer model will get new bumpers, larger grille, prominent wheel arches and will be bigger in dimensions. The wheelbase will be larger thus accounting up to more seating space for the third-row passengers. The interiors in the spy shots are wrapped but then expect a new steering wheel, digital instrumentation cluster, updated upholstery design and a fresh dashboard. Some reports also suggest that the higher trims might receive a HUD too.
New-gen Mahindra XUV500
We have seen several spy shots of the upcoming XUV500 on the internet, however, the launch is now shifted towards the first half of 2021. Nonetheless, for those XUV500 fans, the newer model will pack in more features to rival with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and MG Hector.
The new XUV500 will also pack new engines under the hood. A more powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine is expected along with a choice of a petrol engine. A 6-speed manual transmission will come as standard along with a 6-speed auto gearbox. Mahindra will play safe with the pricing of new XUV500 as to compete with its rivals.

Mahindra XUV300 Sportz
The compact SUV is one of the safest SUVs in its segment and now with the launch of this Sportz trim, it will become a powerful SUV too. We are talking about the upcoming XUV300 which was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo with 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This one gets 128 bhp on tap and 230 Nm of peak torque. Currently, Hyundai Venue hols the tag of being the powerful SUV in its segment.
Once launched, this edition will not replace any older engine but will be an addition to the SUV line-up. It will come with a 6-speed manual as a standard gearbox. Few cosmetic changes on this once include red callipers on the brakes, all-black interiors with red stitching to contrast the layout, Sportz monicker on the body, dashboard and more.
