Powertrain And Rivals
The dynamic performance of these rides is propelled by a robust hybrid system. This system features a 1.5-litre petrol engine generating 91bhp and 122Nm of torque, paired with an e-drive transmission. Additionally, a potent 79bhp/141Nm electric motor complements the petrol engine, forming a dynamic duo under the hood. Together, they combine forces to produce a respectable 114bhp. Notably, this hybrid configuration also includes an all-electric mode, contributing to enhanced fuel efficiency.
Switching gears to the Neo Drive version, it is powered by Suzuki's 1.5-litre K-series petrol engine, delivering 102bhp and 136Nm of torque. This engine is equipped with Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) technology, enhancing efficiency. The Neo Drive variant offers flexibility in transmission choices, with options for a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, catering to diverse driving preferences. Notably, for section eyeing the CNG version, there is an option with the 1.5L K-series as well.
In the competitive landscape, this Toyota model faces stiff competition from formidable contenders such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Scorpio N, Mahindra XUV700, and more.
Verdict
Toyota Urban Cruyiser Hyryder is one of the only 2 offerings from Toyota with an hybrid electric system. While the strong hybrid churns out exceptional fuel economy, it simultaneously bridges the gap between the ICE and EV powertrain options. With the price hike, it is expected that little to no effect will be passed on to the sales number. Interestingly, it has a Maruti sibling going by the name of Grand Vitara, which in its place, clocks in decent numbers and is quickly catching up.
