Volkswagen India gave the old and ageing Polo a facelift last year with a new colour and some minor changes too. In the era of BS6 emissions, VW has ditched the 1.2-litre TSI, 1.5-diesel and 7-speed DSG in the Polo. Now the Polo comes with a 1.0-litre MPI petrol engine and a new 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. Replacing the buttery-smooth DSG is a new 6-speed torque converter box. Volkswagen has also revealed the variants and mileage of the Polo.

Volkswagen Polo gets a 1.0-litre MPI petrol which produces 76 ps and 95 Nm of torque and it is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The 1.0-litre MPI is only available in Trendline and Comfortline trims. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol which produces 110 ps and 175 Nm of torque is paired with a 6-speed manual. It will also get a 6-speed AT but at this point of time, the automatic variant is not listed on the website.
Volkswagen Polo Mileage and Price Comparison
Cars | VW Polo MPI | VW Polo TSI | MS Baleno | Tata Altroz | Hyundai i20 |
Fuel Efficiency | 17.75 km/l | 18.24 km/l | 23.8 km/l | 19 km/l | 18.6 km/l |
Price | 5.83-6.87 lakhs | 8.02-9.13 lakhs | 5.63-8.96 lakhs | 5.29-6.79 lakhs | 5.6-9.2 lakhs |
It is surprising to see that Volkswagen Polo TSI returns more fuel economy at 18.24 km/l than the 1.0-litre MPI which is rated at 17.75 km/l. The 1.0-litre TSI will be the obvious choice of the Polo buyers as it returns more against a litre despite having class-leading performance. When launched, VW Polo TSI AT will be priced at Rs 9.13 lakhs. If we compare the price, VW Polo range starts at Rs 5.83 lakhs which is the highest in its competition whereas the most affordable option is the Tata Altroz. Please also note that Tata Altroz doesn't offer any automatic option as of now.
