According to internet reports, Maruti is all set to introduce its upcoming SUV, Baleno Cross, in February 2023. Interestingly, the carmaker will re-introduce the 1.0L Booster Jet petrol motor, which was discontinued due to the stricter BS6 norms.
This 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol motor was first seen with the Baleno in 2017 and in those times, it used to rival the VW Polo TSI and Fiat Punto Abarth directly. This motor in BS4 form used to produce 101 bhp of power with a peak torque of 150 Nm. It was quite powerful and was mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
For the Baleno Cross, we expect similar peak power and torque figures as before. A 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as an option is also expected with the upcoming SUV. Similarly, this Booster Jet motor could be equipped with mild-hybrid tech too that ensures a better fuel efficiency.

Along with a turbocharged petrol motor, Maruti is expected to bring a non-turbo petrol motor too. As of now, it is not clear whether the smaller, 1.2L DualJet motor will be seen on the Maruti Baleno Cross or the bigger and more powerful, 1.5L with mild hybrid tech will be sourced to the car.
Feature-wise, we expect Baleno Cross to be equipped with a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also expect an automatic climate control, cruise control, power folding ORVMs, ventilated cooled seats and more.
We believe that Baleno Cross will be equipped with a sunroof but it is not clear if it'll get the regular version or the full-blown panoramic unit as found in the upcoming Grand Vitara. What's for sure is that the Baleno Cross will not be equipped with AWD even as an option.

On the safety front, we expect the SUV to be equipped with multiple airbags, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, 360-degree camera, all-wheel disc brakes, ABS with EBD, traction control, hill assist control, brake assist and more.
