Maruti Suzuki has finally understood the real SUV market potential of India. The launch of its new Grand Vitara SUV and its success is a testimony to it. However, the rivals are also developing new products. From Jeep to Mahindra, every maker is eyeing the SUV market. In order to become the king of this segment, the 2023 Maruti Suzuki Jimny is being prepped. Yes, the company will launch its 5-door version of Jimny in India next year. The latest spy shots of a test car in Ladakh has a lot more to tell about it.

Maruti Jimny 5-Door Details
The success of new Mahindra Thar has forced every car maker to consider the SUV market. Yes, the long waiting period on Thar has uplifted its image from a rough jeep to a sophisticated SUV. Additionally, the new-gen liking the butch SUVs is also resulting in the increased craze of this segment. Meanwhile, to hit this sweet spot, a 5-door Jimny will launch soon in India.
As we come across the latest spy pics of the Jimny being tested in Ladakh; a lot more details have emerged. Firstly, its stance is going to be very butch and dominating. How? Well, the test car was seen along with a Thar and a Grand Vitara itself. However, most of it has been camouflaged completely; leaving aside the window panes. Meanwhile, the front design is visible as it looks largely unchanged from the global model.
LED lighting all around the vehicle is prominent & so are the bigger blacked-out alloy wheels. The boxy design of Jimny appeals a lot to global markets & Maruti is hoping the same to happen in India. Meanwhile, it looks like a proper SUV that will fit in the gap of Creta, Seltos & Thar altogether.
The test car is being currently run in Ladakh region. It was spied a few days back in Leh. The recent shots are from the way to Khardung La; meaning that high altitude testing is ongoing. However, most of the components have already been tested on its global models. Feature-wise, we expect the fitment of 8-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, rear AC vents, & even HUD as well. Additionally, one can expect the comfort features like the automatic climate control, Android Auto, & Apple CarPlay too.
Engine & Specifications
Suzuki offers it with a 1.5-Lt K15C motor that makes a peak power of 100 bhp and 130 Nm of peak torque. This global motor is expected to remain unchanged in the Indian variant as well. Meanwhile, it comes equipped with a full 4X4 system with low-range transfer case as well. It is only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
In terms of safety, the global car is fitted with ABS, EBD, dual sensor brake support, & even high-beam assist. Meanwhile, it is still not clear which features will make to the Indian market. On the other hand, Mahindra Thar 5-door is also being prepared and so is the Force Gurkha 5-door.
The expected debut remains around the 2023 Indian Auto Expo. We suspect that its pricing will remain around Rs 9-13 lakh.
