KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Maruti Suzuki's 1st fully electric vehicle
- To rival the likes of MG ZS EV, XUV400, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV
- Launch sometime in late 2024 or early 2025
The accelerating electric vehicles segment is now tilting more towards the SUV segment. From Mahindra XUV400, Tata Nexon EV to the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. Every brand is making its presence felt. Now, Maruti Suzuki has come to the forefront, and the Maruti eVX electric SUV is spotted testing on international grounds.
So, what does it give away? Let's have a look.
Maruti eVX Electric SUV Under Testing
Unveiled as a concept at the 2023 Auto Expo, the production version of the eVX was recently captured in Poland, showcasing the vehicle getting charged at a charging station. New spy shots reveal the test mule in motion, indicating that Maruti Suzuki is actively progressing towards the launch of this promising electric vehicle, addressing the growing demand for eco-friendly mobility solutions.
While specific details are scarce, the silhouette of the eVX model appears robust and slightly toned down from its concept version. The vehicle exudes a rugged appeal with chunky cladding, solid bonnet lines, and pronounced creases. Although the lights seen in the spy shots are veiled, it is expected that the production version will boast LED headlamps and tail lamps, possibly with a connecting LED beam light. These design elements suggest that Maruti Suzuki is aiming to present a stylish and robust electric vehicle option to the market.
The alloys look simple in the test mule, however, the production-ready model will have a different design. It will be rather a more EV-centric design to cut down on air drag.
Since India will be the initial market for the launch of the eVX, Maruti Suzuki eVX and its Toyota counterpart will both utilize a modified version of Toyota's 40PL fully electric platform, also known internally as the 27PL codename. This platform is expected to serve as the foundation for these electric vehicles,
Range And Features
According to the specifications by the brand, the EV will be equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack. This is good enough for providing an estimated range of up to 550 kilometers. Since it competes with other EVs in the segment, it is coming with plenty of features. From the spy shots last time, the passenger seat displays electronic adjustments as well. Vertical ac vents, and single pane dual display set-up, one for the instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment screen. On top of this, expect ADAS to finally make its way as a first on any Maruti Suzuki vehicle.
Verdict
Maruti Suzuki will be looking at a timely launch of their first-ever born electric SUV, the eVX. With the electric versions of the Hyundai Creta and the Mahindra XUV700 spotted while testing, expect more such EVs to enter the market soon to capitalize on the opportunity.
