Under the recent regulation, 8-seater vehicles can only be registered for taxi services and commercial use. The Parivahan website has stopped accepting registrations for 8-seater vehicles as private vehicles, but they can still be registered as commercial vehicles. To facilitate this, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has established a new category known as 'Omnibus' specifically for registering 8-seater vehicles. Omnibus falls within the 'Transport' category, which necessitates the vehicle to undergo an annual fitness certification.

Toyota Innova Hycross has 6, 7, and 8-seater choices, whereas the Toyota Innova Crysta currently offers 7 and 8-seater configurations across its spectrum. It will be interestong to see how Toyota plans out the seating for these MPVs. These seating configurations are currently available in a variety of trim levels. Since fleet operators usually choose the base-spec model, the brand may elect to only offer the 8-seater configuration in that variant as a result of the new rule
