Fortuner TRD Discontinued Ahead Of The Launch Of The Facelift Model

Toyota India has now officially discontinued the Fortuner TRD model from the Indian market. The TRD edition model was launched in August 2020 and was based on the top-sped diesel-AT variant. The buyers of the TRD could choose from two drivetrain options - 4x2 or 4x4 while the prices of the TRD edition models started from Rs 34.98 lakh only (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 4x4 variant, on the other hand, was priced at Rs 36.88 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Both these variants were almost Rs 2.5 lakh more expensive than the standard variant.

The brand offered the TRD model as a limited edition model which came with revised bumpers, dual-tone black roof, and blacked-out alloy wheels. Apart from this, there were no mechanical changes made to the car. Powering the Fortuner TRD was a 2.8-L diesel engine that churned out 177 PS and 450 Nm of peak torque. This engine came mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In addition to the diesel engine, Fortuner can also be had with a 2.7- litre petrol engine that delivers 166 Ps and 245 Nm of peak torque. This engine can be had with a manual as well with an automatic gearbox. It is worth noting that there is no 4x4 variant on offer with the petrol engine.

Except for the cosmetic changes, the TRD edition also had a number of additional features such as illuminated scuff plates, a 360-degree camera, and auto-folding ORVMs. Features like a heads-up display, tyre pressure monitoring system, rear wireless phone charger, air ionizer, video recorder, and puddle lamps were also being offered in the vehicles which came with option spacial technology pack which was available at an additional cost.

As standard, the Fortuner gets features like bi-beam LED projectors, electrically adjustable front seats, touchscreen infotainment system, seven airbags, cruise control, etc. The car rivals against the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4, MG Gloster, etc. The 2021 facelift model of the Fortuner is expected to be launched next year in the Indian market.
