KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Mahindra XUV e8 design patent leaks
- Hints at loyalty to its concept reveal
- Draws major inspiration from the XUV700
Back in August 2022, Mahindra unveiled the prototypes of their fresh Born-Electric series. While they have taken the Mahindra XUV300 from ICE to electric, the next line-ups are coming ground up. While it offers more practicality, it also lays a foundation for future projects with less R&D timeline as well. One of the unveils from August is the Mahindra XUV e8, a 3-row Electric SUV inspired by the Mahindra XUV700.
Now that its design patent leaks are out, let's look at all we know so far about this EV biggie.
Mahindra XUV e8: Design
Looking at the design patents, the production-ready model majorly carries forward its concept lineage. With a lot of styling cues matching the ICE XUV700, it makes EV-specific tweaks all around. The leaked patent image of the production-spec XUV.e8 provides a revealing glimpse of its design, showcasing a striking similarity to the concept version.

Notably, it resembles the existing XUV700 model, indicating a consistent design language across Mahindra's lineup. Meanwhile, this design coherence is further apparent in the spy shots of the XUV300 facelift, suggesting a signature design language being implemented across the Mahindra portfolio.
The leaked patent image of the XUV.e8 showcases an LED connecting beam, integrated headlamps, and a shut-off front grill, indicating distinctive EV styling cues. The wheels are designed for reduced air drag, while the front and rear facia exhibit a departure from the XUV700's design. However, the side profiling bears a resemblance to the XUV700, implying a shared bodyshell.
Interior And Features
The interior is more or less the same in layout as the current Mahindra XUV700. And obviously, it is a techy cabin that can be smoothly integrated into an EV dashboard. The all-digital cluster with big infotainment will be taken as it is. On top of this, features like traction and driving modes, cruise control, TPMS, a panoramic sunroof, and more will be copied from the ICE XUV700. Since the center console will omit the gear shifter, a rotatory dial with the screen is highly likely to fill the void.
Mahindra XUV e8: Powertrain
The XUV.e8 demonstrates conceptual similarities to the XUV700, sharing a similar profile and offering three rows of seats. However, what distinguishes it is its foundation on Mahindra's dedicated INGLO skateboard platform designed specifically for electric vehicles. This platform incorporates an all-wheel drive system, ensuring improved traction and performance.
Although powertrain details are still not out, we can chalk out expected figures with all the hints we have. With a battery pack capacity of up to 80kWh, the XUV.e8 is expected to offer a substantial electric range of around 500 km claimed. The power outputs will loom somewhere from 230hp to over 350hp further suggesting a powerful and dynamic driving performance, making the XUV.e8 an enticing option in the electric vehicle segment.
Verdict
Mahindra is developing its next-generation products from the ground up. This approach ensures that the upcoming EVs are designed with practicality in mind while also incorporating the innovative concepts revealed earlier. By focusing on a comprehensive electric vehicle strategy, it offers practical and technologically advanced EVs that meet the evolving needs of the market and customers.
