Maruti Alto Sells 40 Lakh Units In Just 2 Decades - Details

Maruti Suzuki Alto does not need any introduction as it is the Maruti's best selling car for a couple of years now. The entry-level hatchback is seen in all parts of India and the Maruti Alto has managed to find about 40 lakh units in its 20 years of existence.

Maruti Alto has consistently been the best selling hatchback from the last 16 years. The facts state that 76% of Indian buyers choose Alto as their first car because of its low maintenance and good mileage. Maruti Alto was also one of the first entry-level cars to comply with the BS6 emission and latest safety norms.

The car is powered by a 800cc naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine, it makes as much as 47 bhp with 69 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Maruti also offers the Alto in its CNG form and that returns a mileage of 31.56 km/kg while the petrol returns 22.05 km/l.

The Alto starts from Rs 3 lakh and fetches till Rs 4.37 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The hatchback competes with Renault Kwid, Datsun Redi-GO. Currently, Maruti is offering total discount worth Rs 36,000 on the Alto which includes Rs 18,000 as the cash, Rs 15,000 as the exchange bonus and an additional Rs 5,000 as a corporate discount.
