Jimny Looking To Propel Lifestyle SUV Segment
Mr. Shashank Srivastava, senior executive officer, Sales and Marketing at Maruti Suzuki, says, As the market matures and volumes grow, various sub-segments emerge. Even within the compact SUV segment, there are multiple sub-segments created, ie, entry SUVs, crossover and urban SUVs like the Fronx and Brezza, and then there are lifestyle SUVs (the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha). With the launch of the Jimny, the lifestyle SUV market should double.
Army- Spec Jimny To Be Different
At the moment, it gets a 105PS 1.5-liter petrol engine with manual and automatic transmissions. 4X4 with a low-range gearbox is standard, which helps in better off-road maneuverability. But to adapt to the needs, it might undergo suspension tuning, a soft-top, which is generally how the Gypsy goes, and also some feature changes as well. Since these requirements are still under research and development, it would be a different version. And most probably, the Gypsy might finally have its successor.
VERDICT- As per the company, Jimny is in line to become the nest workhorse for the Indian Army. Although the specs and requirements are still in the talking stages, the final product is going to be different. Meanwhile, Maruti Jimny is launching on June 7, and we will be getting the exact pricing of the SUV.
