Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is a very popular MPV in the Indian market. The first-generation Ertiga was launched in India in the year 2012. It was an instant hit. Six years down the lane, the company launched the second-generation Ertiga in the year 2018. The new-gen Ertiga is leaps and bounds better than its predecessor. It is now much sought after and has become more popular than ever before. Recently, the carmaker has announced that the Ertiga has achieved the 5.5 lakh sales milestone. So, in this article, we will tell you the Top 5 reasons why the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is so popular in India.
Spacious Cabin and Features
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) and so the first most thing that comes into our mind is the space inside the cabin. The new Ertiga is a very spacious car, all thanks to its 2740 mm wheelbase. It has a practical cabin with a feel-good factor and cosy ambience. The Maruti Ertiga may not a perfect seven-seater car but it is a very good five-plus-two seater MPV.
It is also very feature-loaded and gets a host of features including Suzuki's latest SmartPlay Studio Infotainment System. This 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It also gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, reverse parking sensors with rear parking camera, cruise control, etc. The Ertiga can be termed as quite safe too as it has scored a respectable 3 Star Safety Rating in the Global NCAP Crash Test.
Refined Petrol Engine
Earlier, the Maruti Ertiga was available with both petrol and diesel engine options. But, now after the BS6 update, it gets a single petrol engine only. The new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is powered by a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, K15B petrol engine. This naturally-aspirated petrol motor churns out 105 PS of maximum power at 6000 RPM and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4400 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and it also gets a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Good Fuel Efficiency
Although the new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga gets a petrol mill only, it delivers good fuel efficiency. Its BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine gets Maruti Suzuki's new advanced Smart Hybrid technology that helps to improve the fuel-efficiency. This hybrid system also has an idle start and stop function, torque assist and brake energy regeneration functionalities. The ARAI-claimed fuel economy of the Ertiga Petrol with manual transmission is 19.01 kmpl while the Ertiga Petrol automatic delivers 17.99 kmpl.
Only MPV To Get Factory-Fitted CNG
Well, if owning a Petrol Ertiga is not your cup of tea and you want a very efficient MPV, you can have a look at the Ertiga CNG. The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is the only BS6-compliant MPV in India to get factory-fitted CNG. The Ertiga CNG also gets the same BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol mill but it churns out only 92 PS of power and 122 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox only. It is very efficient and has an ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 26.08 kms/kg (kilometres per kilogram).

As India's first compact MPV, Ertiga continues to build a legacy of innovation. The remarkable milestone of 5.5 lakh sales is a testimony of its success.
