Showcased at Auto Expo 2020, the Suzuki Jimny is expected to launch in India in a 5-door-guise more relevant to our market
Back in 2020, Maruti Suzuki displayed their upcoming Jimny at the Auto Expo. Since then the company is working hard to introduce it to the Indian markets but due to some issues, there is a speed bump in the launch. The internal team of the company, a few days back gave a green signal to launch the car but it looks like the carmaker is once again facing issues to launch the mini-SUV here.
To judge the excitement about the car, the company took feedback from its potential buyers to perform feasibility studies. After analysing these, Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director, Sales and Marketing, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, has said that the volumes for the Jimny, which, along with some problems with the logistics, has been causing a delay in the launch.
He further added, We have collected some very good feedback from the customers. We are studying this feedback and we will definitely see if we can introduce the product here. He further added, The volumes are less but such vehicles lift the image of an OEM. At the same time, it also helps support many customer aspirations.

According to the analysis done from the feedback, Jimny will face a problem of low sales, which is surprising if you consider that Mahindra Thar has been regular with topping the sales charts. It is expected that Jimny will be priced lesser than Thar but we wonder if it will still face difficulty in grabbing a considerable market share.
Maruti Suzuki India Pvt. Ltd. has already been manufacturing the Jimny in India, which is then exported to global markets like Europe, Australia, and African countries. The company already has a dedicated production line for the Jimny but to launch the car in India, the company needs to manufacture a five-door model that would be more relevant to our market.
