Nissan Ariya Compact Crossover EV Caught On Camera In India: Details
  • Ariya is a compact crossover EV from Nissan
  • It is currently available in several international markets
  • Recently, it was caught on camera in India
  • Nissan has confirmed its first entry-level EV in India by 2025

Nissan in alliance with Renault recently announced that they would be bringing 6 new models, 3 from each manufacturer, to India in the coming years. Of the 6 models, 2 would be electric vehicles, 1 each from both manufacturers. Moreover, Nissan has confirmed that it will bring an entry-level electric car to India by 2025. Several Nissan SUVs like X-Trail, Qashqai, and Juke have been spotted testing on Indian roads. Recently, a new electric compact crossover named Nissan Ariya was caught on camera in India. The EV was being transported on a car hauler when it was captured on camera. Most likely, the car caught on camera is here for testing and evaluation purposes by the brand itself. If launched in India, the Nissan Ariya will rival the likes of the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. Here's everything you need to know about this compact crossover EV from the Japanese automaker.

Nissan Ariya: Powertrain & Drivetrain Specs

The Nissan Ariya EV is currently sold in some international markets where it gets two powertrain & drivetrain options i.e. a single-motor rear-wheel drive and a dual-motor four-wheel drive. It also gets two battery pack options i.e. 63 kWh and 87 kWh. While the former gets 217 bhp of power with 300 Nm of torque and a claimed range of 402 Km, the latter gets 242 bhp of power with 300 Nm of torque and a claimed range of 529 Km. There's also an even more powerful option in the higher trims of the 87 kWh battery pack option that gets 306 bhp of power with 600 Nm of torque and a claimed range of 513 Km.

Nissan Ariya: Features & Safety

On the features front, the Nissan Ariya compact crossover EV is considered a feature and tech-loaded vehicle with advanced features like HUD (Heads-Up Display), wireless phone charging, wireless android auto/apple car play, built-in navigation, SiriusXMs audio setup, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, 12.3-inch advanced drivers instrument cluster display, built-in advanced voice assistant, etc.

When it comes to safety, Nissan offers its ProPilot 2.0 driver assistance technology (ADAS) in the Ariya EV. The ADAS system offers level 2 features such as autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, high beam assist, reverse automatic braking, blind spot warning, and adaptive cruise control with lane centering.

Verdict: Though this EV is most likely to be here for testing & evaluation purposes by the brand, there lies a possibility that Nissan might launch it in India in near future. If launched, the Nissan Ariya may get priced in the range of Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. In that case, it would give tough competition to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, BYD Atto 3, and upcoming EVs like BYD Seal and Hyundai Ioniq 6.
