KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- The Tata Nexon CNG version will feature a twin-cylinder kit.
- While there is no confirmation about the gearbox, we can expect it to come with an AMT
- It is expected to be 1 to 1.5 lakh more expensive.
A new powertrain for the Tata Nexon is on the way, and its none other than CNG, which will become the third power source for this popular Indian SUV. Recently, a camouflaged Tata Nexon was spotted, and while it's not confirmed if it was the iCNG variant, the exhaust pipe suggests its definitely not an EV.
At the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024, the iCNG version was unveiled, and the most interesting fact is that it will feature the same 1.2L Revotron Turbo engine. See the photos below, and in the meantime, make sure to join 91Wheels Whatsapp Channel to never miss out on automotive updates.

Tata Nexon iCNG
At the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024, this model was showcased, and we learned that it will feature the same twin-cylinder CNG tanks already seen in the Tata Punch iCNG, Tigor, and Tiago iCNG models. The 1.2L Revotron Turbo, which produces 118 PS and 170 Nm of torque, will be the main engine. Additionally, there is no information about the transmission. It's unclear whether the Nexon will have an AMT, but the DCA with E-Shifter doesnt seem to be a fit for this model. However, the manual transmisssion will be there.
Also, the mileage of the Nexon ICE is 17.44 kmpl according to ARAI. The CNG kit might increase it to around 24 to 25 km/kg. After the launch, the Nexon will become the 6th i-CNG vehicle in the Tata lineup and will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG, which claims a mileage of 25.51 km/kg using a 55L tank.
What Could Be The Price?
Its a no-brainer that it will be more expensive, but considering other Tata cars with this bi-fuel option, we can expect the base variant to be Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh more expensive than the ICE version. To put it into perspective, the Nexon base model starts at Rs 7.99 lakh, so the iCNG could be priced at Rs 8.99 to 9.50 lakh. As of now, this is the only information available. Verdict
The Tata Nexon is one of the best-selling compact SUVs in India. Loved for its sequential LED DRLs and modern design elements, it attracts a lot of young drivers. Additionally, it is one of the safest cars out there, with a 5-star safety rating from both Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP. Once its bi-fuel model is released, it will mark another milestone in the car's lineup, but we will have to wait for that.
