The newcomer is German carmaker, Volkswagen which marks its entry with the Taigun on March 24, 2021. This mid-size SUV is based on the new Volkswagen India 2.0 Project. Platform
The new Volkswagen India 2.0 Project gives it an opening for the Taigun. This same MQB AO IN platform is observed in the upcoming Kushaq also and it brings in a new dimension since it is reserved for the Indian market only. Furthermore, the benefit of this platform will overall result in the reduction of costs which will save a lot of money. MQB here stands for Modularer Querbaukasten or Modular Transverse Matrix.

Engine Options
In this new avatar, Volkswagen has decided to ditch the oil burners for turbo petrol only. They will not only be fuel efficiency for an SUV of this size but also brings in the pump which was offered by diesel engines. We can expect a 1.0L TSI along with a more powerful 1.5L TSI.
The former is a similar unit as used in the Volkswagen Vento but it will now churn more power of 115 PS. The torque figures remain the same at 175 Nm. The 1.5L TSI will be reserved for the higher variants and this one generates 150 PS with 250 Nm of peak torque.
Transmission Options
A 6-speed manual transmission will be standard across all variants. As far as the automatic options go then the smaller 1.0L TSI will come with a 6-speed automatic and the 1.5L TSI will get a 7-speed DSG.
Design
We are sure that the Taigun will continue with a similar design as shown at the Auto Expo last year. It continues with a scaled-down version of the Tiguan Allspace with boxy headlights, similar grille design but those change once you look at the bumper design and different bumper set-up.
It continues with a lot of chrome, honeycomb styled lower grille and faux brushed aluminium skid plates continue to sport on front and rear bumper for a sportier look. Towards the C-Pillar, you get to see a different style design that looks interesting and the rear gets an LED strip running across the taillights and chrome detailing on the bumper. The side profile is flanked by dual-tone alloy wheels and the roof rails on the top.

Price and Competition
The upcoming Volkswagen Taigun will rival the popular South Korean cousins - Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It will also give competition to Skoda Kushaq, Renault Duster and Nissan Kicks. We can expect it to be priced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
