Before we move on the differences between the two variants, it's important to know what the similarities are between the two variants.
Similarities between the standard Fortuner facelift and the Legender variant.
As far as the similarities are concerned, the Legender variant is similar only to the Diesel Automatic variants of the standard Fortuner. Both the cars here are powered by a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel unit that puts out colossal figures of 204 BHP and 500 Nm. These figures mean that the Fortuner is not only the torquiest in its segment but is also second only to the MG Gloster in terms of power.

So the question arises, what exactly differentiates a standard Fortuner 2.8 Diesel Automatic from the Legender Variant?
Here are some of the key differences
1. Exteriors - The standard Fortuner facelift continues with a similar design language as that of the predecessor with some subtle changes. For instance, the grille has a slightly different design while the headlights also sport some subtle changes compared to pre-facelift iteration.
However, the Legender comes with a much more sporty design language. For instance, the headlights are a lot sleeker, the grille is a lot smaller and the bumper too features a redesigned look with a larger air dam. The overall designs of both the variants are same. Alloys too are similar except for the fact that the standard Fortuner gets a monotone finish on them whereas the Legender variant gets dual-tone alloys.
2. Powertrain options
The standard Fortuner diesel automatic gets both 4x4 and 4x2 options thereby becoming an option for those who want something that can transport them not only on the road but also off the road as well. The Legender variant, however, is meant only for those who want a big vehicle that looks sporty that can also munch the miles on the road.
3. Interiors
While the overall interiors of both the variants are largely similar, a few small yet important differences are there in both the cars. The standard variant gets a black-tan dual-tone interior or an all-black interior whereas the Legender variant only gets a black-maroon interior scheme
4. Features
Again many features remain standard for both the cars, however, the Legender gets some novelty features such as wireless mobile charging, ambient lighting, rear USB port, and a kick sensor for opening the boot which the standard diesel automatic does not get. But the diesel automatic 4x4 gets an 11 speaker JBL sound system which the rest of the range does not get.

5. Pricing
The Fortuner Diesel 4x2 AT starts at rupees 34.84 lakhs (ex-showroom) which is nearly 3 lakhs lesser than the Legender variant which starts at 37.58 lakhs (ex-showroom). The 4x4 AT variant starts at 37.43 lakhs (ex-showroom) which is more or less on par with the Legender variant
Conclusion
There's not a lot to separate the two cars in terms of the standard equipment they provide. The Legender variant is expected to be aimed at those who want a vehicle that looks slightly different from the rest of the vehicle out there on our roads whereas the 4x2 AT will be for those who are price conscious while the 4x4 AT will appeal to the off-road enthusiasts and the audiophiles especially given the fact that it gets that 11 speaker JBL unit.
