Volkswagen continues to test its upcoming sedan, the Virtus. Essentially a replacement for the Vento, the car will make its official debut next month and will lock horns with rivals its the new-gen Honda City and its own sibling, the Skoda Slavia. 91Wheels' community member Neel Chitnis spotted the Virtus on test yesterday on the Mumbai - Pune expressway and the same can be seen in the video below.
The Volkswagen Virtus 2022 will share a lot in common with the Slavia. For the uninitiated, both Skoda and VW (along with few other brands) are part of the same mother company. So yes, from platform to engines, suspension to cabin parts, both the Slavia and Virtus will have a lot in common. This is something we have seen with the Kushaq and Taigun as well. Do note that the Virtus is already on sale in various markets like Brazil but the Indian spec model will be a proper facelift version. The Volkswagen Virtus 2022 will also be much larger in dimensions as compared to the current Vento.
On offer will be a choice of two petrol engines. These include the 1.0 turbo petrol and the 1.5 turbo petrol. While a 6-speed manual transmission will be standard with both units, the smaller engine will offer an optional torque converter automatic. The bigger 1.5 will come with optional 7-speed DSG unit. As expected, there will be no diesel at launch - this is something we are witnessing with all Skoda models too. Pricing is expected to start at over Rs 10 lakh and like the Taigun, VW might have the GT line up as well.
