India-Bound Fourth-Generation Suzuki Swift Could Debut Next Year

Maruti Swift, since its first generation, has enjoyed a huge fan following. According to several reports, the next-generation Swift isn't too far from its debut and will come with an extensively revised design along with multiple engine choices. It is also expected that it would get a Hybrid engine variant with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and electric support.

Meanwhile, the fourth-generation Suzuki Swift Sport could be built on a much stiffer platform with an enhanced suspension setup. More importantly, the Sport version is likely to come with a much more powerful motor. To further please the enthusiasts, the Swift Sport might come equipped with a revised 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine that will work in tandem with a 48V mild-hybrid system.

Meanwhile, back in India, the Maruti Swift has been available with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder DualJet petrol engine which produces 89PS of maximum power and 113Nm of peak torque. The fourth-generation Swift is expected to be launched here soon after its global debut. Other than the aesthetic and powertrain enhancements, the car is expected to even provide a higher safety through a strengthened structure and more safety features.

The third-generation Maruti Swift is now available only with a 1.2-litre petrol engine with 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT options.

The next-gen Maruti Swift is expected to be available in both petrol and petrol-hybrid variants. The former will feature a mild-hybrid setup for increased power output and better fuel economy, while the latter will be a full-blown hybrid with a 48V electric motor working in tandem with the petrol engine. The transmission options, though, will be carried over from the current model, which means the buyers will be able to choose from a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.

Even the cabin will be thoroughly updated and should come across to be a lot more advanced setup owing to the big gap between the current and the next version. What this means is that the next-gen model could come with a larger touchscreen infotainment unit that will likely support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital instrumentation, advanced connected car technology, and, probably, rear aircon vents. Akin to the current model, the upcoming version will offer steering-mounted audio and telephone controls, and automatic climate control.
