People are increasingly moving away from naturally aspirated engines and opting for turbos, which offer a power packed driving experience along with great fuel efficiency. The compact SUV segment, in particular, has seen a surge in demand for turbo engines, with nearly every automaker offering one. Skoda Kylaq
The first car on the list is none other than Skoda's first sub-4 meter SUV, the Kylaq. Making a lot of noise these days, the Kushaq was officially launched on January 27th, after months of anticipation. This car starts at Rs 7.89 lakh ex-showroom, and the top trim costs Rs 14.40 lakh. There is only one engine on offer: the 1.0L TSI petrol, which produces 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque. Available gearboxes are the 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.
Renault Kiger
This urban SUV is available with only one engine, a 1.0L petrol, and customers have the option to choose between two iterations naturally aspirated or turbocharged. The turbocharged version starts at Rs 9.30 lakh ex-showroom, from the RXT (O) variant. Talking about the power figures, it produces 100 PS and 152 Nm of torque. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual (5-MT) and CVT.
Nissan Magnite
The Nissan Magnite in 2024 received a mild facelift, which brought some minor updates to the car's exterior and interior. However, the company didn't make any changes to the engine options. The Magnite continues to offer a 1.0L turbo petrol engine that produces 100 PS and 160 Nm of torque, with gearbox options being a 5-speed manual (5-MT) and CVT. Lastly, the N-Connecta is the variant where you can opt for the turbo petrol engine, and it costs Rs 9.19 lakh ex-showroom.

Tata Nexon
One of India's favorite SUVs, the Tata Nexon, offers only a turbocharged petrol engine from the start. It's called the 1.2L Revotron turbo petrol, which churns out 119 PS and 170 Nm of torque. This engine is available with a total of 4 gearbox options: a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 5-AMT, and DCA. Plus, the Nexon is available in more than 50 variants, making it a car for every buyer. Lastly, Tata Nexon starts at Rs 8 lakh ex-showroom.
Hyundai Venue
The Venue is a highly dynamic car, available with three engine options: a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0L turbo petrol, and a 1.5L diesel. The 1.0L TGDi engine starts from the Executive variant at Rs 10 lakh ex-showroom. This engine is available with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT. It produces 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque.
Kia Sonet
The Kia Sonet also offers a 1.0L TGDi petrol engine, which was previously available only with the iMT. However, Kia has recently removed the iMT gearbox from all its vehicles. As of now, there is no clarification on whether the Sonet is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox for the 1.0L engine, but the 7-speed DCT is still available. The power specs are exactly the same as the Venue.
Mahindra XUV 3X0
This facelifted version of the XUV300 also brought a new name, along with the same level of performance as the earlier model. In this car, one can choose between three turbocharged engines - two petrol and one diesel. This means the 3X0 offers a turbo-petrol engine from the base variant.
Talking about the specifications of the first engine, the 1.2L TCMPFi produces 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. It is available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT gearbox. Lastly, 3X0 starts at Rs 7.80 lakh ex-showroom.
Maruti Fronx/ Toyota Taisor
One of the best-selling cars in India, the Fronx offers a 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol engine that makes 100 PS and 147 Nm of torque. The gearbox options are a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic . Talking about the price, the turbo petrol engine starts at Rs 9.79 lakh, and the top variant costs Rs 13.03 lakh ex-showroom.
Also, the Toyota re-badged version, the Taisor, offers the same engine and starts at Rs 10.55 lakh, but the top trim costs the same as the Fronx, Rs 13.03 lakh ex-showroom.

Verdict
So, these are the most affordable SUVs that offer a turbo-petrol engine, and some of them have this engine as standard, making them even more value for money. However, if you're looking for the one that provides the best driving experience, then there is only one answer: the Skoda Kylaq, which also happens to have the most refined engine here. On the other hand, the most fuel-efficient one is the Maruti Fronx.
