The 2023 Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door SUV is undergoing its final rounds of testing. The Indian-spec SUV is bound to debut early next year. The Indian Jimny will get a longer wheelbase & design changes as per the segment standards. However, a test mule that has been spied testing in rain shows us more interesting details. Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Details
The Jimny is an already established SUV brand globally. Suzuki has been selling it in quite good numbers in the markets like Europe. However, the Indian market has recently seen a surge in this segment. Competitors like Mahindra Thar 5-Door & Force Gurkha 5-Door have led to the upliftment of the segment. Hence, Maruti does not want to miss the opportunity to rule the SUV segment. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara was also launched recently to expand the brand's SUV portfolio.
Now, speaking of the spied car, it is heavily camouflaged. However, the design details speak of a production-ready unit. The 5-door version is going to be 300mm longer than the standard Jimny. Additionally, it will get LED lighting all around; as seen on the spied car. A spare tyre will be fitted at the tailgate as seen in the photos. However, it is the interiors that will get a fresh aura. The Indian Jimny is going to get a revised dashboard design with a soft-touch leather treatment.
Additionally, it will get a large 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Meanwhile, it will get leather upholstery, Auto ORVMs, & automatic climate control as well. Design-wise, it will remain more or less the same as the global model. However, due to its elongated body, it is going to look butch. The muscular appeal of SUVs is loved by Indian customers; hence, the Jimny 5-door will make up for a good choice.
Engine & Specifications
The Indian-spec Jimny will get the 1.5-lt, K15-B petrol engine. This 4-cylinder engine makes a peak power of 104 bhp & 138 Nm of peak torque. We suspect that Maruti will offer it two gearbox options. One shall be the 5-speed manual and the other a torque converter automatic. Additionally, an optional 4X4 system with a low-range transfer case shall also be offered as an option. Due to multiple spare parts shared with other sibling cars; its maintenance is going to be pocket-friendly. However, no claims can be made on the car until it gets launched.
Verdict
The Jimny is going to be launched early next year. We suspect that it will be launched at the 2023 Indian Auto Expo. However, its pricing remains a mystery until then. We expect Maruti to price it in between Rs 9 - 13 lakh (ex-showroom).
